I did a 5k last weekend with my dad. The race was held at Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park.
Today, I ran my second half marathon. I would like to share some pictures from the race.
I also got my hair cut (free certificate in goodie bag from a race I did in November!) and colored my hair this week. I got some reddish/auburn lowlights (something I've never tried) and blonde highlights. I love the cut and color but the red doesn't show up as much as I expected.
Last weekend at the race at Six Flags my dad and I got there at 7am. The race info said 7. It was an hour drive and when we got there we found out it started at 8. They also started about 25 minutes late, making the start time much later than we thought. We had some time to go get coffee nearby and come back in time for the race.
I tried out my new running jacket. It is for cold, rain, wind...Rain was predicted but we only got a few sprinkles. My jacket was great for the cool morning.
On Thursday after work I went to get my hair colored. I had done the cut the Friday before and returned for color. I had to move my car and when I went out I snapped a picture.
And this was the end result...
In this photo you can kind of see the red on the left...even if the red isn't very visible, it's natural and I like the color and the style.
Today, I ran my second half marathon. The Holiday Half Marathon was my first half marathon last year. I finished it in 3:30. Today, I did the race in 2:50! I had a goal of getting a time of 3:00. When I started off I ran with a pace group of 2:40. I was able to keep up comfortably and decided I would try for under 3 hours. I had to stop at the porta potty so I lost my pacer but I still maintained a good pace throughout. This race was also hilly! The course was flatter last year!
There was lots of eye candy--cool race getups, tutus, candy striped socks, Santa dudes. It was a fun and festive race. I wanted to dress up after I saw last year's event. But I just had red shoes.
I was so happy to see this because I was past the half way point. I felt good--strong, and happy about how this race was going.
And even happier to see this...
And VERY happy to see this
After the race
Of course the experience was not perfect. Nothing is. I am focusing on the positives of this race. I woke up at 2am and couldn't go back to sleep. I ate breakfast at 4:40 am and the race started at 8:20. By then I was hungry and I had only brought chews for the run. I wore orthodics and was nervous about that. I had a little foot pain in the beginning. Toward the end of the race I was taking more walk breaks even though I could have kept going. So I focused on someone in front of me and kept going to stay motivated. I pushed myself to finish in under 3:00 and I was happy with the result.
When I finished I went to get my shirt and couldn't get my race shirt. I had to wait and by the time I got it I got a shirt that was not my size. I told my dad he could have it and he was excited. I was really looking forward to the shirt because we runners, well, sometimes we run for the shirts, right?
