Running, running, running...

Sunday, December 09, 2012

I ended up walking/jogging a half marathon distance this afternoon. I should preface this by mentioning that I ran intervals with the dog this morning for 3.2 miles. I ran intervals for the first 5 miles of the 13+ miles. At that point I thought I would keel over, or maybe just throw up from running up all the hills, so I switched to just walking for 5 miles, before going back to running intervals again for the last 3+ miles. Those last three miles were tough. I started out doing 5 minutes running, 2 minutes walking, but by the end I was doing good if I could run for a minute. My legs were like lead. Of course, I got back to my apartment, released the dog from jail (his crate), and went right back out to walk the pooch. I also just took him for his third walk of the day. All together I walked/ran over 20 miles today... most of it in a light rain. That wouldn't be too notable except that I am not sure it got over 40 degrees today, so it was cold rain. I don't know if that qualifies me as hardy, or merely crazy.

Foodwise it was a strange day. Or rather night and day. I woke up about 4 this morning starving. I don't have much junk in the house, but what I had I munched up last night. I ended up counting it as breakfast. What it means is that I am at the upper end of my calorie limit for the day (though I didn't go over), and my fat content for the day was much higher than normal. Nothing to panic over or feel too guilty about, but something to keep in mind.

My dog, Cooper, is acting weird tonight. I think being in his crate for three hours was too long for him. He keeps "talking" to me in these whining, growling noises, followed by a single bark. And he keeps " mouthing" my hand. Not biting me, but sorta chewing. He also keeps trying to "have relations" with my arm. Weird puppy. We will see if he is a little more normal tomorrow. I might take him with me for my early morning walk, rather than crating him. I might also take him for a good long walk tomorrow. The longest walk I have taken him on in the last few days was only 3.2 miles. Maybe he is just a little bored and stressed.

I have company coming in the morning tomorrow. She'll probably be here a couple of hours. So, that long walk with Cooper will probably have to be in the afternoon. (If I can walk tomorrow. My legs and feet are worn out, so we will see.) I am NOT running tomorrow!!

I love running in cool temps, light rain. You sure did put in a work out. Good going.

You made me laugh out loud re Cooper and his affection for your arm. Too much.

I've often wished that dogs could talk... wouldn't it be interesting to know what they're really thinking!

emoticon emoticon I remember my 1st HM like it was yesterday (actually September) and I jogged the 1st 9.5 miles or so but then I had to walk the last 3.4 or so. Brought my time way down but I'm already planning for next year. So keep up the good work and keep getting stronger. emoticon
