Camden market

I wanted to go for another walk today but the weather was a bit yucky so I took the bus to Camden market, to start a desultory hunt for a birthday present for my niece.

Camden market . . . ah, the memories! 30 years ago, in my yoof, I used to hang out there at weekends with my friends. How young and hip we were. EVERYBODY wore black and nothing else, and nobody except the stallholders was over 30.

It's a bit different now, because it attracts people my age as well as the yoof. And quite a lot of tourists of all ages.

I saw a telly programme a couple of years back that suggested that a lot of street fashion in the UK was started in Camden market.

Interesting idea.

There's certainly an air of cultural fusion. You can eat in just about any country in the world there, and I'd guess a lot of it is more authentic than yer average restaurant.

No, I did not partake. Once started, I would have been unable to stop.

I started looking at some of the clothes and I really fancied this frock. Not thin enough yet, but I'll be back. Oh, I can't wait till I can get into stuff like this. I can't WAIT!

The building itself is interesting.

It's a series of warehouses and a former stables and they have horse sculptures to remind you of this.

After the market I headed off to Oxford Street.

Selfridges have an interesting display in their window, which includes a conveyor belt with chocolates on. The thing is, being endlessly dropped and picked up again has made most of the chocolates lose their wrappers.

The result is, like the weather, a bit yucky.

These looked ok though!

Shame about the Selfridges choccies. One window dresser for the high jump, I suspect. Not that the unwrapping could have really been foreseen. Heading for Camden and a West End show for my 50th next year! Really looking forward to it. :-)

Loved your walk.................. it reminded me of my visit to the Boston Market, USA. You market sure has a lovely history....HORSES. Love them. Looking at those hanging tops made me think of how I'd look in them.......... I'M NOT READY FOR THAT YET !
Chantel.... what happened to your lovely... wonderful outdoor background???? The flowers are nice, but I miss the outdoor beauty.
Hope you found something special for your niece.

I was so happy when I saw, on my activity feed, that you posted! I was also thrilled to see that you gave us another report of one of your adventures, complete with your wonderful photos! Camden market looks like a place I would love to visit. I love every place I've been to in England and I plan to put this on my "next time" list. I know what you mean about the food. Unless they give "tastes" I always end up with so much more than I want or need. The dresses look very chic (but I'm not too sure about that frilly, VERY mini skirt) - I'm sure you'll be ready for new clothes before you know it! What a great place have when you need new smaller sizes.
Thanks again for a wonderful "mini vacation"! Now I have to get busy, working my way into new, smaller clothes!

Your shopping sure beats the American malls. Wish I could fill up a basket there.
