Camden market

I wanted to go for another walk today but the weather was a bit yucky so I took the bus to Camden market, to start a desultory hunt for a birthday present for my niece.

Camden market . . . ah, the memories! 30 years ago, in my yoof, I used to hang out there at weekends with my friends. How young and hip we were. EVERYBODY wore black and nothing else, and nobody except the stallholders was over 30.

It's a bit different now, because it attracts people my age as well as the yoof. And quite a lot of tourists of all ages.

I saw a telly programme a couple of years back that suggested that a lot of street fashion in the UK was started in Camden market.

Interesting idea.

There's certainly an air of cultural fusion. You can eat in just about any country in the world there, and I'd guess a lot of it is more authentic than yer average restaurant.

No, I did not partake. Once started, I would have been unable to stop.

I started looking at some of the clothes and I really fancied this frock. Not thin enough yet, but I'll be back. Oh, I can't wait till I can get into stuff like this. I can't WAIT!

The building itself is interesting.

It's a series of warehouses and a former stables and they have horse sculptures to remind you of this.

After the market I headed off to Oxford Street.

Selfridges have an interesting display in their window, which includes a conveyor belt with chocolates on. The thing is, being endlessly dropped and picked up again has made most of the chocolates lose their wrappers.

The result is, like the weather, a bit yucky.

These looked ok though!

I love these types of European Markets, wish we had more like them over here! Love the horse stables turned into warehouses and the horse head! Does kind of remind you of our malls, but we don't have food markets, just restaurants. emoticon

You would do well just across the bridge in Louisville Kentucky at our Church Hill Downs. We also have several markets to play in, but none as colorful and intriguing as your area!!! LOVE this!!!

I loved the tour, but it took me a minute to realize what the picture with the red ruffles and bow was about. I'm assuming those are panties, but they must be made to wear with nothing covering them as the ruffles and bow would be bulky under most anything worn...very interesting indeed.

The part about Selfridge's reminded me of the old Hudson's Bay store when it was still downtown (the building is till there but not that particular store) I remember as a young boy going downtown with my Dad and they used to have all these automata and other Christmas/ Winter panoramas in the store windows.
