Highway to the Danger Zone

Hello all! I haven't blogged in awhile. Currently I'm finishing up finals (and procrastinating on studying as we speak) and looking ahead to winter break! There are always plenty of treats at my parents' house and the holiday celebrations to come. I'm hoping I can get through my two weeks there without going overboard. Here are some of the strategies I'm planning to use:

- Stick to my 150 minutes/week goal for exercise. With school and homework out of the picture soon, there's no excuse not to work out, but this has been tough for me in the past.

- At parties, focus on socializing and enjoying myself without the aid of food. Load up on veggies and fruit, and save one splurgey item to eat towards the end of the party.

- I love cooking, and I'll have some spare time to do it. Instead of baking, I'd like to try out some new healthy recipes... or maybe try to do some healthy baking at least. :)

- When going out to eat with friends, order healthy items, or arrange to socialize over other activities like shopping, coffee, or manicures, or (even better) take an exercise class together. The trouble with the exercising is that there's not really time to talk. (I am not someone who can run and talk at the same time, and it's freezing out anyway.)

- Keep up with SP!

Any other suggestions? I'm really hoping I can stick to it this time... going back home somehow always gets me sliding into old bad habits. By focusing on the holidays themselves and spending time with people, hopefully good habits will happen.

    Cooking healthier, making healthier food choices but also eat the cookie/cake too. Break your workouts into smaller segments of 10/15minutes could help too. Running & having long conversations are not high on my list.

    I just ordered the Sparkpeople cookbook and am LOVING it! You might want to check it out. It may be in your local library.
