Cookie report

Saturday, December 08, 2012

Got an IM from my son this morning that the cookies I baked and shipped nearly two weeks ago arrived at their intended destination today. He said the team had missed lunch due to mission... so the cookies were a HUGE hit, and the Col even asked if I shared secret recipes. Hee-hee... right off the package. Except for one place where the recipe says either vanilla or orange peel? I put in both. See? Now my Spark buds as well as my son's Col have the secret!

emoticon He said they even arrived in cookie shape (as opposed to granola clumps).

So... that's the good news.

On the "she went off the deep end" front... I followed through on my temptation to sign on to do the Lincoln Marathon in May. As a full 26.2. And then I went out in the 31 degree F cloudy morning on a training run. The state of my current "long slow run" shape? 8.1 miles in 1:32. When looking at the training plan? That's about six weeks in. So... once again, kind of adjusting training expectations.
emoticon Note to self: if you are going to run outside in temps like this again? Wear warmer gloves! The rest of the layers worked well... about four on the top. Just regular running long pants on the bottom.

Oh, and the techno-toy? Perfect for this kind of run!

What a great motivator you are for me. I'm getting back in to it, as you know. I love to hear about other people's goals and their efforts to stick to it. I think about it when I want to take it easy on myself.

I'm so glad the cookies made it safely and were such a big hit. Thanks again to your son and all the other military and families for the sacrifices. I can never say it enough.

Awesome goal for next year! I have no doubt you can do it!

glad the cookies were a success! wonderful story. i find hands are the hardest part about winter running - thinner gloves aren't warm enough, heavy ones, my hands get too warm. i wind up taking them off and holding them and in a way, that works best! glad you are enjoying the techno toy - i used runkeeper a bit in sweden last summer, may have to try installing it on my phone here!

You are going to be so proud when you complete that marathon in May. And we'll be virtually cheering you every step of the way!

Glad the cookies made it. Mine only have to go as far as Hawaii....so I haven't sent them yet. OK, to be honest, I haven't baked them yet. I've got a little time :)

Congrats on your training!! That was a great run. I'm benched again due to backache. Booooo. But I'll overcome and this time not go back to picking Gwen up so much. I've got to learn how to dress for cooler (not cold like your temps) weather, too. I probably just need to get some gloves.

I'm excited for you doing the full marathon. I'm not aspiring to that much, but I respect it greatly. I know you will do it and do it well!

Glad your cookies were such a success -- and that you had the discipline that it did not mess up your success!! Take care.
