I was going to start this whole weight loss thing after the holidays and do it for the new year, but I decided it's better to just jump in right now. I've tried to lose in the past but this time is different.
I'm at the highest weight I've even been, by over 25 pounds, and for the first time ever I can feel the effects on my body - I don't have much endurance at all and I wake up sore and achy most days.
I have a 2 1/2 year old and I know I need to get in better shape so I can keep up with him and get out with him to hike and be active, and I want to model healthy habits for him because I never had that growing up.
I also have the motivation of taking part in a 90 day challenge that pays to lose weight, so my goal is to lose 50 pounds and earn $500. Being that money is very, very tight and I usually make less than $100 a week working from home, that is a very big motivator!
So far, I have started by tracking what I eat for the past few days and staying within my calorie goal, by wearing a pedometer and trying for 10,000 steps per day, and by walking. My first walk was .6 miles (around the circle I live on) and the second was .75 miles, and I will be walking a mile today, then started the 5k Your Way training program from SparkPeople on Monday. I will be either riding an exercise bike (or my real one, once I get it checked over) or doing a workout video on the alternate days for some crosstraining and strength training.
This looks like a great site to track things and a great community to find encouragement and motivation. I was also thrilled to find some FlyLady and home organization groups, because cleaning and decluttering is another thing that I have problems with and need to start doing more of.
