I have a spare bedroom closet where I stick clothes when they get too small for me. I didn't put everything in there, just the things I really liked and knew it would be hard to replace. I always knew that eventually they would go to Goodwill, but I had to work myself up to giving away some of my favorite things. There were a couple formal dresses, jeans, cords, tops, a few of everything. It's only about 1/4 of the closet, not a lot of stuff, but it was growing.
Now the stuff in my normal closet is getting way too big. I've started a pile of stuff to give away or donate and was starting to worry about not having clothes anymore. I kind of forgot about the too small closet.
This weekend we are having our company Christmas party. People really dress for it, it's kind of like going to a wedding reception. I was thinking about what to wear and remembered a long black dress with rhinestones that I had in that closet. I wondered if I could fit into it. So I pulled it out and the fit was AMAZING! No bulges, no snugness, just perfect black smoothness! I was so very happy!
So then I noticed all the other stuff in there. I grabbed a pair of jeans that used to be favorites and they too fit! I am wearing them right now. My butt looks way better than in the baggy pants I've been wearing!
I see a swap happening. I will move the formerly too small stuff into my regular closet, and the spare closet will become a too big closet! I am not holding on to anything because I think I will need it again. I just need time to realize that I will never wear those old favorites. Although, come to think of it, I can't think of anything in the larger sizes that I like so much that I can't get rid of it.
