Half-Marathon Insanity...

Friday, December 07, 2012

Last night, I signed up for a Half-Marathon! That's 13.1 miles!
What was I thinking???

(Deep, relaxing breath...)

I feel much better now. In all reality, I have approximately 6 months to train (race day - 05/05/13). I will overlook the fact that I just started running this year, because I can. Over the course of this last year, I have gone from a "couch potato" to an actual, honest-to-goodness-runner. Thus far, I have run two 5K races, and run on a treadmill 5-6 days a week for about 45 minutes a session. I have grown to really enjoy running - a fact that I wouldn't have imagined in 2011...

I can do this! 13.1 miles isn't that bad, right?

I signed up for one in 2007 feeling the same way and then went on to do 5 more. Enjoy every minute of training - race day is a celebration of all your hard work!

You'll do great! I went from C25k in april to my first HM last Feb and my first marathon in Oct. Start gradually increasing your mileage now until about 16 weeks out which is when most plans start. Find a plan you like and stick to it :-) I used the FIRST plan and loved it. Good luck!!!

You better believe you can do it! You're way ahead of the game! You might want to check out Jeff Galloway's Training. I've seen many use it as their training and race plan. I used it initially when I started my 5Ks. Now I use it on my Halfs. 29 5Ks and 2 Halfs to this point, I have 2 Halfs and a 10K scheduled over the next 79 days! Yes, a lot of us are HALF crazy....and i love it!

Yes you can! I ran my first half marathon in the fall of 2010, less than a year after beginning running - I'd only run one 5K in March of that year. I've now run a total of 10 HMs - 6 this year. Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can. It sounds like you have a very solid base. Trust your training and you will be super successful on May 5! Best of luck.
