FRIDAY PARTY NIGHT!

Friday, December 07, 2012

Very excited to host my first gathering of the season for me. My daughter is visiting from across the country and a couple dozen family and friends are coming. Normally I would be freaking out right now, cleaning and cooking and fluffling. The tree is still in pieces and I am cuddling my nine week old GrandBoy right now.

Can I tell you why I am excited and not freaking? Because of Spark and all my friends here. I feel so in control of not just my food, but also my emotions. All of your support and sharing of your stories and plans and strategies have really helped me to focus on what is AUTHENTICALLY important to me.

What is important to me is visiting with my friends and family and making them feel welcome and important to me. It is not the number and sequence of hot appetizers, it is not the matching plates and napkins, it is not having every inch of my house decorated.

So the menu tonight is salad (my sister offered to bring, and I am actually going to graciously be grateful for her help), takeout pizza, bowls of popcorn, a huge bowl of shiny, crisp apples, a platter of grapes. There will be wine and liquors with mixers but the specialty drink of the night will be based on blood orange, sugar free, sparkling water. People can add champagne or vodka or gin as they like.

Several people have offered to bring dips and breads and desserts, etc. I let them know the basic menu and just asked that they not bring much as we are all working on celebrating health. I actually said that and emailed that to anyone who asked. Will some people still show up with "stuff" ? Probably. But I am really looking forward to having a really good time and still feel just this great tomorrow.

Board games and dominos and cards and cribbage games will be out to encourage play..ornaments will be by the tree in case anyone is moved to decorate...shenanigans will be encouraged, but please, leave the dips and chips at the door. And feel free to join me in celebrating what is AUTHENTICALLY important to you!

Sounds lovely! Less emphasis on pigging out and more on the things that truly matter: friendship, hospitality and good conversation. emoticon

You are so right! It's all about being authentic to yourself. To celebrate and share the values that are important to you. I am so motivated and inspired to read about your party with a simple plan - low stress - I am with you all the way....
And grandbaby's are just the best aren't they????
Have a wonderful Christmas season - and a blast tonight!

What an inspiring attitude to the holiday hubbub! I have my mother visiting now, and am hosting the family for lunch on Sunday, and I will think of this blog if the stress starts to mount! Cheers!

Your blog has made me smile. It isn't about gobs of fat laden goodies at all. I know you will have a wonderful gathering with love in your heart. Hopefully by sending that message out ahead, others will be creative and try to help with healthy dishes . How thoughtful that would be. I bet being a Grandma you get those feel good hormones again.
Have a great day!
