Trying to stay positive about eating gluten free at the Holidays

Friday, December 07, 2012

Here I sit, trying to figure out what to say. What do I share with you? I am a little anxious about the food choices for the upcoming holidays. Not only from the stand point of trying to watch my portion size and healthy choices, but also the fact that I need to stay gluten free. Over the past 6 months I took gluten out of my diet and feel a MILLION times better. It is not worth it to eat it, even if I really miss the food. I have found this out. I had this anxious feeling going into Thanksgiving too. Although, I did make an awesome gluten free green bean casserole. (http://fireandsalt.blogspot.c
om/2009/11/gluten-free-gre
en-bean-casserole.html) It was very tasty! Being on the lookout for gluten helps me not make poor choices. It just bums me out to have to work around this. In trying to stay positive, it is fun making new recipes w/o gluten that are different and very yummy! Hoping that these new recipes will start a tradition in my family for years to come!

THANK YOU, CINDYTW!!! Your words are just the thing I needed to hear. I've been trying to figure out how to do it and you say it simply. I made it worse for myself by thinking it was so overwhelming. It really doesn't need to be. Thank you!

emoticon It is very doable. Different, but manageable. Pick your favorite things that you would miss and bring your own GF versions so you don't feel left out.
