I have been trying many new things so I do not get bored. Protein shakes have been an added must after my weight training and I'll even drink them on my rest days. The amount of protein powder depends on what I am in the mood for that day.
Here's the recipe for my Pumpkin Protein Smoothie.
1 cp water
1/2-1 cp fresh spinach (yes, spinach!)
1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/2 cp canned pumpkin (just the plain kind)
allspice, to taste (don't be shy!)
cinnamon, to taste (don't be shy!)
vanilla non-fat Greek yogurt
small piece of frozen banana (about 40 grams, which is half a small banana)
1 tsp vanilla (optional, it's fine without this)
(Approximate) 175 cal, 26 carb, 1 fat, 21 protein, 5 fiber
Place all ingredients except ice cubes in a high powered blender. Blend until spinach is blended in the liquid. Add ice until you obtain a smoothie texture. Pour into glass and enjoy!
I promise, you will think of pumpkin pie when you drink this. A lot of people turn their nose up at the green color, but you cannot taste the spinach. 1/2-1 cp is a safe amount. If you put in more, you will taste it. It's a great way to disguise vegis in your day.
I buy bananas fresh for my cereal. Once they get a little too ripe, I peel them, cut them in half, store them in a ziploc bag, and toss in the freezer for smoothies. I pretty much do this with all fruit that is about to get too ripe and have to be thrown away.
I give this recipe 8 out of 10 stars!
