1+1=2 ......... diet + exercise = weight loss
The math really does work, people! Why can't everyone do this? Just like people who think they stink at math, there are people who think they can't lose weight. I used to be one of those people. I really don't understand that anymore.
My success aside, I've also been witnessing my parents - both of whom are seriously overweight and battling difficult health problems - being very successful at losing weight! Despite being 62 and 57, and having very demanding jobs and busy schedules, and despite their health problems, they have each lost 15 lbs over the last couple of months. My dad has even been taken off 2 of his 6 heart and blood related medications.
My mom is learning all kinds of new vegetable-centric recipes to make. They aren't vegetarians, but my mom has been asking for vegetarian recipes from me for a while, and has even excitedly shared a couple recipes she found with me. I think they are eating about 80% vegetarian now and being EXCITED about it.... and this, coming from my Dad who previously didn't recognize food as a meal unless it had a big hunk of meat in the middle.
My dad was diagnosed with diabetes this year - and it shocked the two of them into action. I'm not happy he has diabetes, but I am happy that they took action. Besides the diabetes they both had high cholesterol, my mom had a lung infection last year that led to chronic lung problems and asthma, she has joint problems and issues with mobility, my dad has high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides and HIS dad had a triple bypass in his 60s.
I love them both and want them to be around for a very long time, and I'm glad they finally decided to be good at math!!!! They caught his diabetes early - at the stage where it can still be reversed with lots of hard work. I hope he gets it together!
