"Do you binge? If so, explain why you think you do."

Binge eating is a pattern of disordered eating which consists of episodes of uncontrollable eating. It is sometimes as a symptom of binge eating disorder or compulsive overeating disorder. During such binges, a person rapidly consumes an excessive amount of food. Most people who have eating binges try to hide this behavior from others, and often feel ashamed about being overweight or depressed about their overeating. Although people who do not have any eating disorder may occasionally experience episodes of overeating, frequent binge eating is often a symptom of an eating disorder. (Wikipedia)


No I don't, If seen from the point of a disorder. But if it is something that happens occasionally, yes I do.(It is actually a subconscious tool to suppress my anxious moments).

But since I joined SP, I became conscious of myself when the strong urge to binge comes and I tackle it by:

1. eating all the right/healthy stuffs
2. I make sure it does not last too long, not more than 24 hours
3. I make a conscious effort to stop it and I normally do

Like tonight I had this urge to start putting everything in sight into my mouth, I just went straight to the fridge brought out a cup low fat yogurt, garnished it with consciously counted peanuts and I was relieved for the moment before dinner was ready. (I also consciously measured my dinner) It is possible I ate over my calorie range tonight, but not so much above. Tomorrow is a good day to do a fresher page for myself, remember there will always be a TOMORROW.

    I think many of us have occasions where we binge. For me, deciphering what triggers it is key. The biggie for me is being tired. The boyfriend helped point that out to me. Now when it comes on he will often times say "you need to go to bed!" Another one is when I am not tracking good and find I have not eaten enough through the day. I try and keep healthy options available on a moments notice just in case it hits:)

    I agree that mindfulness can sometimes slow down or stop a binge - if I binge on grapes, I might still go over my limits, but I'm less likely to keep the binge going with ice cream and cookies and potato chips!
