What's My Why?

Thursday, December 06, 2012

This post was inspired by MSPATOOTY'S blog Entry: What's my Why? www.sparkpeople.com/mypa

She inspired me to dig down and find my true motivation for joining SP and trying, once again, to get back to a health weight.

So I asked myself, "Self? Why do you want to lose weight? Why is this time different than all the rest?"

Well, Self, it's simple, really:

-Because I want to reduce my chances of developing Diabetes. Our family history is strong and I want the cycle to end with me.

-Because my life is not about me anymore. I have a husband and son who need me. I cannot be a burden to them. I need to be a blessing. I can't do that if I'm not at a healthy weight range.

-Because I want to be able to go shopping without worrying if they have my size.

-Because I need to prove to myself that I can do this.

-Because I want to inspire others.

What is your WHY?

To always inspire- Vanessa

My why is health related, my family has the most terrible health problems, I lost my dad weeks after his 50th birthday! I'll start getting regular testing when I hit 30 and I can assure you when that time comes I'm not gonna be the 21 stone girl who couldn't walk up a set of stairs. I wanna be active and as healthy as I can be! :D X

Yaay! I'm so glad my blog sparked you! emoticon I agree ... there is nothing wrong with wanting to inspire others. Just think how many times you've read the Success Stories and admired someone's before & after pictures. That really helps me sometimes ... to see that someone else has been able to do it. If they can, so can I. emoticon

Yes, I want to feel good in a swimsuit, too!

Coxbeth- I felt the same way, too. That somehow wanting to inspire was prideful. But then I realized it was no different than me saying I wanted to look more attractive. Also vain and prideful, but honest!

Thanks for the encouragement!

So many reasons - but it comes down to wanting to live a healthy and active life as I go along - and that includes feeling good in a swimsuit!

I have a hard time coming up with all the reasons "why" but I know that one of them is the same as yours "to inspire others". It feels prideful to say something like that though, so I've avoided admitting it...and I have no idea why. I have to take care of myself if I want to help others and that's just what that statement means! It seems nuts to me that somehow I've considered that statement to be NEGATIVE in the past. What on earth was I thinking?!? I'm pretty happy to have made the realization and to have accepted this attitude adjustment though.

Keep Sparking! Keep inspiring! Keep having a fun AND healthy time!
