I have not blogged in aaaaaages. Sheesh.
What's been going on, what's been going on.....
Well, I handed in my resignation at the bakery last week, so Sunday is officially my last day there. I'm really excited to be stepping into a new path in my life. Especially one that gets me away from working with food. Particularly bread, since I eat too much of it and I've really got to stop that.
I passed my theory exam (on my first go. Woo!), am planning on doing my practical some time in January, and I've already applied at a couple gyms. I do greatly hope to get hired at my gym for a couple reasons (It's down the street from my house, I'm friends with all the trainers there, other gym-goers know who I am and have seen the things I can do, etc), but I'm not going to be completely heartbroken if I end up elsewhere. I still find it kind of hilarious to think that I went from being the "fat girl" my entire life to turning into a personal trainer. Life is strange sometimes.
I'm currently doing a diet-tweak. I've been experiencing some really annoying regains lately, including a 3lb increase in a matter of a week. It did get me down for a bit, and I was texting Derek with my woes after my weigh in on Monday because he's pretty much the only person who listens to me these days. haha. Technically, the nutrition aspect is out of the trainer's scope of practice and he shouldn't be the one I go to, but that's the benefit of him also being my friend. I'm not asking as his client, I'm asking as his friend. Technicalities and loopholes. Gotta love 'em.
I weighed in at about 7am, and had a session with him at 10. Instead of moping around and feeling like total crap (or worse, shoveling food in my mouth), I did my best to do something productive. I went back through my weigh ins to find that one weigh in that showed me the ever-elusive 160s for the first time in over a decade. I was losing weight fairly consistently at that point, and it also gave me my lowest weigh in. Then I went back on Spark to look at my food logs for the month before and after I saw 168 to see what, if anything, I could pick out. The first thing I noticed was how much meat I was eating. I was guaranteed to eat meat at least once a day, if not twice or more. That just reinforced a conclusion I have come to before... UP THE PROTEIN! Up up up UP!
The other thing I picked out was the overall calorie range. For the last four months or so, I've been eating, on average, between 1600-1700 calories a day, though some days it hits near 1800. Aside from the annoying gains the last couple weeks, my weight's essentially been holding steady. Maintenance is all well and good, but dangit body, that's not the stage I'm at yet! During the time I was viewing logs for, I was normally eating between 1500-1600 a day, which is what I'm now going to be using as my target range. Hopefully, with these two little tweaks, I'll be able to finally see some new progress.
When I went to my session later on, I explained all of what I did and the conclusions I came to to Derek. He was impressed, and told me that he actually assumed I was going to walk in with my own answer and was prepared to listen to me think out loud if I hadn't figured it out yet.
On a very unhealthy note, it's Derek's birthday on Saturday, so I decided to make him something delicious and elaborate. I always bring in baked goods to the gym on Mondays, because it gives me the chance to be creative and make all the wonderful things I love making, but also have a place to get rid of most of them so they aren't sitting around my house. The staff there really appreciates that I bring them stuff and they've enjoyed everything I've ever brought in, so we're all happy!
Derek is like me.. he's a TOTAL chocoholic. I asked him to list his top five favourite chocolate-based things, and I would make one of them for him. After reading his list, I got a MUCH better idea. Three of the things he listed: chocolate chip cookies (which are his favourite), dark chocolate cake, and chocolate covered strawberries. My mind whirled, and insanity ensued.
What have I made? Dark chocolate cupcakes (and are they ever dark. They look black!) with a small ball of chocolate chip cookie dough stuck in the middle. They're frosted with a dark chocolate icing, and topped with a chocolate dipped strawberry. They're both beautiful and DANGEROUSLY delicious. And bad for you. So very bad for you. But good lord are they good. I will post a picture soon, so you can see these little devils.
Those are really the most important points that have happened in the last couple months, and have really mostly happened in the last two weeks. haha. I'll do my best to update a little more regularly, especially as far as my diet tweaking and job hunting/preparation is going.
