I decided to make week 11, day 3 of Couch to 10k an interval workout. The closest public track to my house is far enough that I'd have to drive so I decided to try out running the path that surrounds the local little league field. Based on some back of the envelope math, I believe it is just under 1/3 mile around.
After the C210K warmup, I did a half lap around the little league field at 5/6 RPE and then a half lap at 7/8, repeating 16 times (based on more back of the envelope math -- I didn't count) and then jogging home. It was tough.
It was very, very dark -- the field is surrounded on two sides by woods, one side by a small parking lot, and the final side by a playground. There are no lights. And the sun didn't rise until 2/3 of the way through my run. There is one section that is very uneven due to a tree whose roots have extended under the path, which I forgot about on my first run and tripped. After that, I did a series of hops through that section and hoped I timed it right each time.
It was also quite cold. I had on several layers including, on the bottom, running capris and a pair of (drawstring) sweatpants. For a bit of comic relief, my sweatpants fell off at the halfway point and I had to stop to retie them. I'm sure I looked ridiculous.
It was a tough run for me -- I am still not fast or very fit. But I'm glad I pushed myself to do it! I ended up doing 6 miles in 63 minutes.
