Annoyed

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

We rent. I hate renting, but I do like that when something breaks, I don't really have to worry about it - except apparently, the blinds.

Oh, these blinds will be the death of me. My children love to mess with them, as do the dog and the cat. Needless to say, we have a lot of broken blinds.

And every time we do end up with broken blinds, we end up with a notice on our door from the apartment complex, telling us to fix them or we'll be charged.

OK, I get it. It's in the lease. They want the place to look nice. Fine. Except the neighbors on both sides of me have broken blinds and they don't get a notice (I looked and asked the neighbor next door.) Today they apparently were in the backyard checking them out, because we got a notice that the ones in the back need to be fixed (and I think they're actually confusing our window with the neighbors, because we don't have any broken blinds in the back - but our houses are attached and my neighbor has broken blinds.)

Anyway, I know that others bad behavior does not excuse my own, but frankly I'm sick of having to replace my blinds every few months while my neighbors don't. My kids are catching on to the FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T TOUCH THE BLINDS! Rule I have, the animals have been a bit trickier - but I'm trying. And you know, if I have to replace them, I get it - but I just don't know why I have too and nobody else does. And if they checked out my back yard, they had to have walked past my other neighbors window which has a window full of broken blinds.

All in all, I'm lucky to be complaining about just blinds, but I'm going to have to speak to the complex and find out why no one else is getting complaints.

I would talk (nicely) to the apartment complex and ask....it can't hurt to ask why the others aren't getting notices too. It could just be a simple mistake that you need to bring to their attention. Do you like how I am giving them the benefit of the doubt....one time give them the benefit after that you may have to find other resources to get their attention. I feel your pain, we have an HOA and they were fining us for parking in the street - it wasn't us. When we proved to them that it wasn't ours and they were wrong - they started to write us up for EVERYTHING (even having our basketball hoop in the wrong place on the driveway). It took getting new people on the board for them to stop harassing us.
Good luck and have a great day!
