Day #9: Boring Treadmill Fix!

Wednesday, December 05, 2012

I enjoy walking & the pace of the elliptical, but I have found the treadmill or elliptical boring unless I was doing something else at the same time (back when I was in school I would study notes while I walked). Then I read that to get the most out of my workout I shouldn't read or watch TV while exercising. Snap.

Today I was reading about HIIT and decided to give sprinting a shot today. You know what? Before I knew it, it was over! Because I was changing paces so often, it made time fly & I didn't have time to think about whether or not time was passing & all the other things I could be doing. Here is what I did (with fun music):

- 5 min walking warm up
- 20 seconds running, 10 seconds walking, repeat x 8
- 1 min running, 30 seconds walking, repeat x 8
- 20 seconds running, 10 seconds walking, repeat x 8
- 2 min cool down
CARDIO TOTAL: 27 minutes

ST: arms & legs x 23 min

NUTRITION: Homemade chicken veggie soup for "breakfast" (got up and ate late), 2 eggs with veggies for lunch & green tea, low on the calorie suggestion for today, but cycling to make up for the weekend.

I will definitely be repeating this HIIT sprint session in future weeks. Do you do HIIT? What is your favorite kind?

All of my running is run/walk whether it's on the treadmill or outside. I do HIIT on the elliptical....1 minute sprint and 90 seconds recover X 8 or 10 with warm up and cool down.

HIIT is amazing... I haven't really been able to do much during my pregnancy that intense but I can't wait to get back to it.

I need to add more HIIT into my life. Every time I do it, I've had the same reaction as you, the time flies! Keep up the great work!
