We are two full days into the fruit and veggie competition at my house and I'm thrilled to report that I'm winning!!! We were tied on Monday with six servings of fruit and veggies each throughout the day. But yesterday, I pulled ahead by eating 6 while he ate only 4.
I have to say that I'm really enjoying this, although I think he has an advantage (more on that in a bit). I love brainstorming each morning as I pack my breakfast and lunch for the day (breakfast is always on the go for me) to see if I can't think of any way to add another serving into my meals. I also love seeing my husband eating fruit and veggies. He made dinner last night and included broccoli, which never happens when he makes dinner. Usually, if he's making dinner and I want to include a veggie, I just throw some salad on the side. Also, my husband skips lunch like all. the. time...so it's great to hear that he's eating lunch again to get in more fruit and veggie servings.
Now, to why I feel he has an advantage (not that I'm complaining. I just have to be more thoughtful). I have a diet plan, a calorie range that I'm sticking to every day (although I went slightly over yesterday) and I have the added challenge of finding ways to include fruits and veggies into a diet that was already meeting my calorie goals. This means that I have to be conscious of getting rid of "junk foods" like the corn chips that I sometimes pack in my lunch in order to use those calories to eat a fruit or veggie. It's actually kind of like a puzzle and I'm really enjoying it so far.
This week has been tough in other ways, though. I haven't been feeling well. Had a massive headache all day both Monday and Tuesday. Today I can still feel the "hangover" from the headache (the residual kind of stiffness) but no pain. I did get in some exercise even though I didn't feel well. I figure some is better than none at all. Hope all my spark friends are having a wonderful December so far. It's not too late to make major changes in your habits in 2012!!!
