My son is trying to "stay in shape" for track. Since he just got done with wrestling, I guess he is worried that he is not getting enough exercise. He asked me if I wanted to go for a walk tonight. I pondered for a few moments and decided "oh why not?" Then it hit me...I have this Couch to 5K app I've been wanting to try but I haven't been brave enough to go alone. Being 13, he is up for almost anything, even running with Mom.
It's a pretty basic program. We started with a 5 minute warm up which was easy peasy. Then the fun began. Our intervals tonight were 60 seconds of jogging followed by 90 seconds of brisk walking. This little computer voice tells you when to switch speeds. Jogs 1-4 were no problem. Jog 5 was uphill and I thought I was going to die. (To the point I was telling my son to call 911 if I fainted, only partially in jest). Jogs 6-8 I was huffing and puffing but I did it. I did the whole thing.
The best part of the whole night? My son goes "Mom I want to tell you something but I don't want you to get offended ok? Mom, here's the thing. You're getting skinnier! Are you mad that I said that?" I about cried happy tears. Gave the kidlet a big hug and said "Nope dude. You can tell me that all you want."
Jogging with the kidlet? Doesn't get much better than that.
