At the end of this month, in approximately 27 days, I will have gone 1 whole year without buying or eating McDonald's food. This very well may be the only goal I've stuck to all year; but I've done it!
I went to McDonald's several months ago to meet with a customer regarding a custom piece I'd finished for her; and I had to leave after five minutes in there. It smelled so disgusting I thought I was going to be sick. The air was thick with grease and I just felt gross being there. I think I can safely say that I can abstain from McDonald's for good now. That's not to say that I don't seriously crave an egg McMuffin with a hash brown from time to time-I definitely do. I just can't manage to get myself in the door to order it much less wait around for them to give it to me.
Next up...life goal update!
Goal 1: Get married. Working on it! We're getting married 09.01.13. Yay!
Goal 2: Buy a house. Actually had a great conversation with DJ about this tonight. We live in a great apartment building/complex but I'm not ecstatic about some of our downstairs neighbors (they do some seriously bad things), and I miss my dog. He's currently living with my parents right now. We've found an IDA program through our housing association that (with a commitment from us to attend some educational classes) at the end of two years will double our savings. Basically, we agree to attend 8 classes over 2 years and to save 42.00/month during that time. At the end of the classes, they'll give us $2,000 to add to our savings. That's at minimum a $3,000 down payment. Of course we'd like to save more, and we plan to, but we feel like this would be an excellent way to save money and come up with funds without turning to our families for help. We're going to call and inquire about it tomorrow! I'm very excited.
Goal 3: Not buy new yarn. This has been an epic fail, but with good reason! I started my own online knitwear business! So far I've made enough money to pay for my wedding dress. So, I feel like it shouldn't be a 'fail' I'm earning extra income! It's a win.
Fitness wise...I've been strongly considering doing a 30 day paleo challenge. Nothing official, just working on cutting processed foods/white sugar/carbs etc out of our diets. Just 30 days (starting January 1st) to see how we feel and if we notice any changes. It's going to be hard! I love my coffee with a passion, but I don't like how cranky and irritated I am when I don't get enough. I don't like how my skin feels or looks; and I really don't like the extra weight I'm sure the unhealthy food has padded me with. So. 30 days...no white foods or processed foods. If it goes well, maybe we'll stick to it longer. We'll see!
