Okay, I haven't talked about my latest project much. This is because... well... it's only been my project for two days! However, I'm really excited about it. Today's a rest day, and I've been spending it wisely.
I've always wanted to learn another language. The two I've been interested in are Mandarin (which ironically enough, BOTH of my kids are learning in school thanks to a county-wide program) and Spanish. Because so many of my daughters' friends are Hispanic, that's the one I'm going for.
Well, there's a website called Duolingo. I learned about it before it was launched, and immediately signed up for the beta. The video I saw was here:

Then, I forgot about it. I eventually got an email, and joined the beta. I did maybe one, two lessons... then again forgot about it.
Two days ago, though, they sent me an email... they have an app now! So I grabbed the app... and have been practicing for at least an hour a day ever since!
The only have Spanish, French, German, and a beta of Portuguese right now, but hey, this thing is fun. The best part? Unlike stuff like Rosetta Stone... this is 100%, no-hidden-fees or tricks FREE.
The goal of the project is to translate the web while teaching people languages. I can get on board with that.
I know more Spanish than I give myself credit for; over the years, my husband's taught me mostly a few pleasantries like good day (buenos dias) and please (por favor), so it's been fun. I really, really know how to say "The woman eats an apple." (La mujer come manzana.)
Anyway, if you think you might like to check it out, the website's at
www.duolingo.com - I believe it's out of beta now. Look me up! I'm Dragonchilde there, too.
