SparkWobble

A SparkWobble (SW) is what you have when you don't track for a few days and don't strictly speaking stay within calories. That should actually be 'strictly speaking', strictly speaking. In other words a little bingette.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've had a two-week SW and have managed to clamber back on the wagon a couple of days and fallen off a couple of days and climbed back on it again today. At the weekend, I analysed a bit the reasons for the SW. So far as I can see the main one is that I was concerned I wasn't losing any weight (ref howls over the scales in Boots in previous blogs, I do not actually KNOW how much I weigh) so I cut my calories a bit, making my lower end my top end (about 1400) and my lower end 1200. I had not been having much difficulty keeping to about 1500 and so I expected this to be fairly easy.

Wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. I found myself going over calories hugely every day and feeling hungry all the time.

Is this psychological? No idea. But on Sunday I asked SP to reset my calories and the bottom end of the range is 1,450 and today I'm well on track to stay under that.

Moral of story: SP knows best.

Wobbling after 2 holiday trips. Officially up 4.5 OVER goal. To boot I've broken a few ribs after tripping over a suitcase and crashing into a granite counter top, so I can't do my regular exercising. Looks like it will have to come (off) with limitation of calories. Especially hard when I am baking non stop making gifts for friends and neighbors. Tough row to hoe this time of year isn't it?

You'd think all that climbing on and off the wagon would at least build your upper body strength, no?

I know it's been a struggle for you but the world is a better place now that we have the concept of the 'Spark Wobble' (aka SW) and the bingette. I love the latter term - thank you. :) Well done.

I know the feeling. I'm having a rough time staying on track these days. Doing great with fitness, but tracking my food has been difficult.

I agree with TJCADDO the Wobble is a great dance. Too bad one Wobble can't cancel out the other.

We all wobble but as long as we don't completely fall down and give up the journey is still there for us to overcome these wobbles. As long as we learn what works for us individually and grow on our journeys we will all succeed on one level or another. KEEP PUSHING!!!

I know just how easy it would be to fall into the SW black hole. Even though accurate tracking is often a real drudge, I do it faithfully. I actually fear a real problem if I don't.

SW - LOVE IT! I've done that many times perhaps even more than a wobble. I have learned that eating too few calories is actually the worst thing for me to do. It doesn't allow me to lose more weight, in fact just like you I find myself too hungry and after a short amount of time I'm binging!

Lemme tell ya something. I think a LOT of us who are successful with the Spark program go through that very same thing. We lose a bunch of weight and then the weight doesn't fly off our bodies as fast or our bodies take a breather and hang on to the pounds to try to regain some equilibrium. At this point, we question EVERY single last decision we are making about our journey. I MUST be eating too many calories. I MUST not be exercising enough. So we start to tinker. Tinker with our calorie range. Tinker with our exercise regimen. Begin a quick fix liquid diet wonder program. And what does all this serve to do?? Make our wobble even wobblier (Is that even a word??).

I wobbled from August to November. Silly me. Now, I'm back on track, working the plan I know works and losing weight again. I hear you though. I UNDERSTAND what you are going through. We set these timeframes for ourselves and if we don't meet them we are heartbroken and convinced the system doesn't work. It does work. Just be patient. Shake things up by trying new recipes and new fitness alternatives. However, if we severely limit your calorie intake, particularly if we are doing hours of exercise a week, one of two things is going to happen. 1) We will rebel and fall completely off the wagon, or 2) Our bodies are going on strike and will stop shedding weight.

Good for you for realizing the source of your wobble and recommitting to your plan! Be patient with yourself dear one. This is a lifetime journey. The weight may not come off in a steady, logical progression. That's normal. Consistency is the key to your success though.

Thanks for sharing about your wobble! I think we all have them! I have the opposite problem...I'm never hungry except after I work out. So maybe look at what you're eating. If you're eating whole grains and heaps of veggies, and lots of protein. You should feel full...plus your water! And then even making sure you're taking your supplements. If your body isn't getting what it needs nutritionally, it keeps making you search for it...stupid body! :) congrats about getting back on track! You can do it!
