I first heard about the great benefits of a properly designed and written affirmations when I attended a motivational seminar led by the great Zig Zeigler who just passed away. I walked away from his presentation wondering if they really worked or had I wasted my money.
So I set about practicing and eventually had 15 or 20 that I read every day. Zig said that they had certain rules. Namely…
1) They MUST be written as if they have already happened, not something in the future.
2) They must be apropos for our current situation.
3) Keep them short, but complete enough to create that all important visual image of the result.
4) They are to be read every day and also read out loud, so this is a private time activity.
As I continued to create my personal affirmations, good things began to happen. I was in the Real Estate business at the time and we all needed all the tools available to keep going. Interest rates were at the astronomical 22% but somehow I survived. I like to think that my exercise in affirmations led to a greater confidence level needed to keep going. We had 5 young boys at home so the pressure was intense, to say the least. But we survived and somehow thrived.
Here are a few of mine that served me well. You might want to try to adjust them to fit you but I don’t recommend it as they must be a reflection of who you are and who you want to be.Remember, I wrote this as if they had really happened but they hadn’t at the time. Some came to fruition and some did not but that is the point isn’t it?
“It was easy making 15 cold calls today and I create at least 2 appointments.”
“It was easy and very rewarding to have $20,000 in the bank.”
“It was easy and it felt good to lose 30 pounds.”
Looking at these now they seem a little silly, but they worked for me. I still use affirmations to this day.
One that I have been using since I joined SP is … “It was easy to lose enough to get into a 38 trouser.”
Guess what? I am now wearing 36’s and they are not at all tight. I will be in a 34 soon. I used to wear a very tight 54. Now that’s a lot of those palm trees along the way.
I urge everyone to give this a try.
Cheers for us all!!
