I didn't realize how putting up outdoor Christmas decorations could be so hazardous. Each year, we put up plywood candy canes (painted red/white stripes) around the entire perimeter of the yard and string lights on top of them.

Today I helped DH by holding the canes in place while he used a 3 pound hammer to drive the stakes into the ground. We'd gotten maybe 1/3 of the way around the yard when the hammer slipped out of his hand and gave me (thankfully just) a glancing smack on the head. DH felt awful, and I didn't feel so good myself : ) as he practically carried me into the house. When we got there I took my hands away from my head and saw blood. You know, a head is skin and bone, so you bleed like crazy.

We got the bleeding stopped, then I put an ice bag on my head, took Tylenol and rested a bit before we went out and finished putting up the candy canes. DH is going to do the lights himself.

I actually feel a little bad for DH, as I know it was purely an accident. I obviously don't need stitches or other professional care, and I'm so thankful that DH hadn't lifted the hammer to take a blow on the stake - now that would surely have knocked me out. So I'm fine, or will be.

Moving on...

Yesterday (when we started outdoor decorations) and today the temps are in the 60's - a real heat wave for us, as our normal is something like the low 50's. We're real grateful for the warm, sunny days to get our decorations out.

I trimmed our tree on the weekend - took a couple of days, and have a wee bit of inside decorating left to to.

I have several presents to wrap, some of which will be mailed and a couple more to buy (tomorrow afternoon, I hope). But the Christmas cards are all addressed and waiting for stamps. Yes, we still mail a number of cards every year.

Tomorrow I'm going back to the oral surgeon. I think I'll be getting the screw set in my jaw. This started several months ago when I had a badly abscessed tooth that was pulled/cut out and cadaver bone implanted. Now that that's healed, I should be able to get the screw, and once the bone grows around that (a few months) I'll get a new fake tooth from my dentist.

I'm going to get my ice bag again, and rest a bit. Wishing you all a great day.
