Christmas decorating is hazardous to my well-being

I didn't realize how putting up outdoor Christmas decorations could be so hazardous. Each year, we put up plywood candy canes (painted red/white stripes) around the entire perimeter of the yard and string lights on top of them.

Today I helped DH by holding the canes in place while he used a 3 pound hammer to drive the stakes into the ground. We'd gotten maybe 1/3 of the way around the yard when the hammer slipped out of his hand and gave me (thankfully just) a glancing smack on the head. DH felt awful, and I didn't feel so good myself : ) as he practically carried me into the house. When we got there I took my hands away from my head and saw blood. You know, a head is skin and bone, so you bleed like crazy.

We got the bleeding stopped, then I put an ice bag on my head, took Tylenol and rested a bit before we went out and finished putting up the candy canes. DH is going to do the lights himself.

I actually feel a little bad for DH, as I know it was purely an accident. I obviously don't need stitches or other professional care, and I'm so thankful that DH hadn't lifted the hammer to take a blow on the stake - now that would surely have knocked me out. So I'm fine, or will be.

Moving on...

Yesterday (when we started outdoor decorations) and today the temps are in the 60's - a real heat wave for us, as our normal is something like the low 50's. We're real grateful for the warm, sunny days to get our decorations out.

I trimmed our tree on the weekend - took a couple of days, and have a wee bit of inside decorating left to to.

I have several presents to wrap, some of which will be mailed and a couple more to buy (tomorrow afternoon, I hope). But the Christmas cards are all addressed and waiting for stamps. Yes, we still mail a number of cards every year.

Tomorrow I'm going back to the oral surgeon. I think I'll be getting the screw set in my jaw. This started several months ago when I had a badly abscessed tooth that was pulled/cut out and cadaver bone implanted. Now that that's healed, I should be able to get the screw, and once the bone grows around that (a few months) I'll get a new fake tooth from my dentist.

I'm going to get my ice bag again, and rest a bit. emoticon Wishing you all a great day.

    Well you sure had a close one. Doing construction those are the things you dread. Glad your OK . If you feel light headed or any kinda issue I encourage a mri just to be on the safe side.

    OMG! So glad you weren't hurt any worse than you are. I just know your DH feel's bad about this but as you said, it was truly an accident.
Take it easy because blows to the head can cause problems for a couple of days.

    Yikes, I'm so glad you are not hurt badly. I guess Christmas decorating at your house is hazardous, hee hee. Take some pictures when you get a chance. Didn't you get a new camera, hee hee :)

    Yikes, I'm so glad you weren't hurt worse. Poor guy, I bet he does feel bad, but I hope he gets over that very soon.
I hope your shopping and mailing is going ok and that you're relaxing as well. Enjoy that heat wave!
Well, after the dentist tomorrow, you won't be able to say you have a screw loose!

    Ouch! Hope you don't have too much of a headache! Do you have a photo of your decorations? I used to love looking at the neighbourhood decs in England, they don't seem to "do" decorating here in Belgium.

    Ouch! I'm glad you're okay. I'm sure your hubby feels just awful. Maybe you deserve a dinner out or some other special trip.

    So sorry for your injury. I know DH feels awful. Rest and be careful. Glad you got your decorating all done -- and I'm impressed that you have your cards already, too. You are in the holiday spirit and well organized. Good for you!!!
