Ouch! I just returned from the grocery, where I purchased all the items on the list to fill the bag for giving to a family for their Christmas dinner.
I added:
canned vegetables: so high in sodium
stuffing mix: is there anything good in there?
Bisquick: more starches and sodium
Red Velvet cake mix: Yummy processed sugars and starches
canned cream cheese frosting: add that sugar to the cake - woooowww
cranberry sauce: maybe there is hope, if you're careful with portion
Christmas candy: Hershey Kisses - Maybe only eat one per day?
Turkey gravy mix: ???? More starch
boxed mashed potatoes: Fluffy starch and fat - they need lots of butter!
How I would prefer to provide this needy family with fresh fruits and vegetables and healthy desserts and grains along with the knowledge and recipes that Sparkpeople has available to all of us.
Merry Christmas to the family who receives this grocery sack. I hope they make the best and healthiest use of all the ingredients and have a wonderful holiday meal! By the way, the church will add the non-perishables and meat.
