Began training for my first 5k!

Monday, December 03, 2012

Technically it's not my first... I've walked two. However, I just snagged a copy of Zombies, Run! 5k training app, and it combines my two favorite things: Exercise and the apocalypse!

The premise is you're training to "get faster" with the radio operators who run the regular missions in Zombies, Run!.

The first week is fairly easy. 10 minutes of walking, then 10 alternating 15 second runs/1 min walks, and lastly a 10 minute free form run that you just kinda listen to your body through.

I hate doing it on the treadmill, but the usual boot camp class wasn't running at the gym, so I figured why not.

I also started a Facebook group for my RL friends to support/encourage each other to be healthier. I'm hoping that

And lastly, I have a big announcement right here on Sparkpeople. I was invited to be a moderator of the Staying Motivated forum!

That's me up there! *squees*

I guess all that know-it-all foruming paid off. ;)

It's good to have a goal, it helps to attain focus and determination to complete. I'm at that phase right now myself since I reached my goal and now am in entertaining mode for another month or so. I accept that and still eat sanely and stay active. But once that is done. I too need to find that driving force again to get my spark back so that I don't drift back into complacency. So good on ya.

I have a friend who got one of the Zombies apps and she started running, but now she has shin splints. We old ladies gotta watch ourselves (me and her, not you.) So I don't know if I will ever become a 5k runner, but I've been walking my butt off (literally, it's firmer!) with this fitbit.
