This year, I am so very thankful for my Spark Friends. In general, this community is amazing and one of the biggest happy places in my life. I am very thankful for each and every one of you... from those that I have talked to almost daily to those that are reading my blog for the first time... you are my inspiration to keep trying.
Yes, I said trying. This year, my weight loss goals proved unsuccessful... but maintaining is so much better than gaining! I am leaving this year lower than last year, even if it is only a few pounds, it is still progress.
I can't look back on this last year and say "I wish this" and "I wish that" because what's done is done and there is nothing more that I can do to change the past. I must now look to my future and make plans.
That blog will come another day. Today, I want to tell all of my wonderful spark friends about another friend of mine. Her name is Tiffany and we have been friends for over 10 years! I will add pictures to this blog when I get home (so feel free to check back) but right now I just want to get this out to you!
Tiffany has four children. Kalib is her oldest, he is 13. Arianna is 8. Pyper is 6. Little Cole is only 2 (he will be 3 on January 4th).
[I will enter pictures here].
The reason I am telling all of you about Tiffany is that this woman has been there for me for every bump and bruise through life's journey. I guess it was just my turn.
Just before Thanksgiving, her family lost everything... even their home. They had no where to go and Tiffany's family was not willing to help. With only a couple of dollars in her hands (literally) she contacted me and I knew that I couldn't say no. How could I let kids be out in the cold this time of year? Our family grew.
In my home, ten of us are sharing everything. It can be loud and crazy at times, but it feels good that I know that they are safe with a roof over their heads. I wish I was rich so that I could do more, but I'm not. We are just getting by with the necesities.
That would be all fine and dandy, but there's just a wee little holiday coming up: Christmas.
The three younger ones (2, 6 & 8) all still believe in Santa and have told me that they can't wait til he comes so they have some toys of their own and not have to always share my daughters.
We are in desperate need of a Christmas miracle.
This is where you come in.
From another friend's suggestion, we have created an online fundraising site, to try and raise money for Santa to bring some Christmas joy to the family this year.
Please consider helping with any small donation. Share this with your friends and spread the word. We are not looking for much, but I don't want to break these children's hearts come Christmas morning.
If you would feel more comfortable, we have set up a Christmas Wishlist with some of those dream items on Amazon. You can find that wishlist here:
So, to sum things up... my heart is growing with care and compassion for our (temporarily) growing family and I hope that yours will to. Thank you so much for reading this blog. Have a wonderful holiday season.
---I wanted to add that we have tried programs like Toys for Tots, however those programs had signup deadlines before this situation occured with my friend and her children. Please consider opening your hearts this year as you have all year long to me and my journey!---
