For Jeff and I, it was our 4th trip to this location, but it is the 1st time we take the kids... so we booked a tour to Ciego de Avila - the capital of the province. We wanted them to get to experience a little bit of the cuban experience and know more about the life outside the resort... I know - it is a tour so you get to see what they want you to see but still, it is more than just the pool/beach view! You get to see real life, just like this.
You can spot the flamencos from the causeway that takes you to the main land (Cayo coco is a smaller island of Cuba... )
The First Stop: Boat tour in the mangrove!
...where we saw the giant termite nest...
and fishermen with their catch!
. I had never seen a small boat with that many fishes... not quite dead yet... and the noise - the fish kinda bark!
Second Stop : the City Tour, including the cigar factory...
... a bike taxi ride... (picture from the ride!)
... then we had lunch (see previous blog!!!) and a walk downtown.
Third Stop: We made our way to the next city - Moron, where we saw the sugar plantation and tried sugar cane - fresh. We had a short ride in a steam train before calling it day over!
Despite the fact that Emma doesn't like bananas - she took a picture of it!
I think they learned a lot and they enjoyed the day. -Me too!
Well let's say that I was very happy to go on vacations -I really needed a break. I was tired and fighting sinus infection since beginning of October (over 6 weeks.. on and off... flying for my job did not help!). Since our return, I have been looking after Jeff who got really sick the last day of the trip. The docs thinks he caught dengue fever... they will run more test this week. He is better now but still weak.
SO ... my distance goals and my motivation were off track - to say the least!
I have given some thoughts to this and I think I need some small goals that will not set me up for self sabotage! December means parties, more food and occasion for excuses. I can do better than this. I want to feel good about myself...
My extra sources of motivation =
: 31 December - 5km Resolution Run with my girls and hubby
: 29 January - Departure for Mexico (Jeff and I only - want to look my best!)
: 17 February - 10k Run - Race qualifier for the Canadian Forces Nationals coming up in May - I qualify to compete in the Master category for the Half-marathon already but I want to run (and win!) the 10km ... And maybe sign up for the full...
GOAL 1- Staying in range.
STRATEGIES: Mindful eating, taking picture of my food, planning my meals, tracking, allowing myself a treat a day (accounted for!), not giving up to emotional eating when I get stressed out and drinking water.
GOAL 2- Back into Action!
^^I need to get back to exercise. I have been on the recovery phase for way too long now. (Although I could not do my 10k virtual race last week because I was sick too... I will go the distance tomorrow.)^^
STRATEGIES: Virtual and real races, printing a running plan and following it! and running buddies (virtual and my girls).
GOAL 3 - Self Care & Sleep
With the tempo of December if I don't do this one I will need more than one week to recuperate!
GOAL 4 - Go outside for minimum 10 min/day...
TASK (Other than goals!) for December:
- Complete my blog scrapbook of 2011 and 2012.
- Compile a photo album of Jeff and I (My 1st Anniversary gift to my hubby!)
- Make a copy of recent photos to CD (having double is so important!)
- Write a farewell 2012 letter to send to family and friends
- Send a gift to my mom...
I can do this! ... Next blog - Cuba Recap 2 with pics (this is part of my first task!)
Edit - Writing this blog really helps me keeping a positive attitude - shifting my focus to the good stuff (even stolen form the past)... that way I am less preoccupied with the things that made me
... I can visualize the positive...
I will keep in mind my mantra: Zenfully ... My mind is the magician !
