BACK TO STAGE 2

Sunday, December 02, 2012

HI EVERYONE;
THE YESTERDAY SPARKPEOPLE CONGRATULATED ME FOR ADVANCING TO STAGE 4 OF MY JOURNEY. I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT A LOT. I AM NOT REALLY IN STAGE 4 I AM STUCK BACK IN STAGE 2. I DON'T FEEL AS I AM PROGRESSING AT ALL. I AM RACKING UP SPARK POINTS THAT IS TRUE BUT I AM NOT TRULY MAKING POSITIVE CHOICES AND CHANGES IN MY JOURNEY TO GET PHYSICALLY HEALTHIER. I STILL AM ONLY DOING THINGS HALF-HEARTEDLY. I'M NOT MAKING MUCH PROGRESS IN IMPROVING PHYSICAL ENDURANCE OR STRENGTH. OH I AM MOVING AND WALKING SOME AND WORKING OUT WHICH IS MORE THAN I HAVE IN A LONG TIME BUT I HAVE A LONG WAYS TO GO. FOR WHATEVER REASON I DON'T SEEM TO HAVE THAT INNER DRIVE TO GO WHERE I NEED TO BE. NUTRITIONALLY I AM STAYING WITHIN MY CALORIC AND NUTRIENT RANGE PRETTY WELL BUT AS FAR AS MAKING REALLY HEALTHY CHOICES I DON'T THINK SO! I STILL DON'T HAVE MUCH WILL POWER. AT WORK THEY BROUGHT IN A BOX OF CHEAP CANDY. IT'S SITTING AT MY NURSE'S STATION. I DO ALRIGHT FOR AWHILE BUT BEFORE YOU KNOW IT I'M NIBBLING. I DON'T EVEN PARTICULARLY LIKE THE CANDY BUT I'M EATING IT. WHY? NO WILL POWER OR THE STRENGTH TO SAY NO! SO THAT'S WHY I FEEL LIKE I BELONG BACK IN STAGE 2. I NEED TO BE STRONGER, MORE RESOLVED IN MY DETERMINATION. I AM DETERMINED TO DO THIS JOURNEY AND BECOME HEALTHIER. WISH ME LUCK AND GIVE ME ENCOURAGEMENT. PAT.

    Breaking old habits is hard, even when we are motivated and determined. So you slipped. As a close friend of mine says, "Allow yourself to be human." There's no need to beat yourself up. The more years we have had to create those habits, the harder they are to break. But it can be done.

The important thing is to start fresh - not just every day, but every hour, every minute if necessary. Catch yourself breaking your resolve. Note it. Then put it behind you and go "from here on" each time. Eventually those success times will get longer and stronger.

Many of us are right there with you. Stress will complicate your journey. Deep breathing helps relax us.

Ultimately, I turn to the Serenity Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Blessings and peace - you can do this.
