The party was nice last night. It included a turkey dinner with all the side dishes and a yummy bread pudding for dessert. I find it odd that people get so drunk. It has just never made sense to me. I doubt I’ll ever understand it.
The had a live band (more of a combo-only three guys). They did a good job – played music that the demographics enjoyed. Actually got Dan out for a couple dances. Since neither one of us knows what we’re doing, we just bounced around but I had fun.
We ended up staying almost to the end. There were drawings during the evening for prizes. Debbie really wanted to win one and she did. Buck and Jo won three! Greg surprised me when he was poo pooing the idea of winning something. I said, “Don’t you want to get an outdoor thermometer?” being facetious. He said, “No, I want to get laid.” Whoa! I’m guessing he wouldn’t have said that to me if he hadn’t had a bit too much alcohol.
My computer does not recognize the word facetious. I had to get out the old fashioned book, the one they call a dictionary, to check my spelling.
Today will be another day of rain. It is a very steady rain – not a heavy downpour. Our seasonal creek is running hard through the yard. The water is muddy. I’m glad it is way downhill from the house.
This afternoon I’ll be going to Sonora to participate in the special service at St. Patrick’s Church. It’s one of the Pine Cone Singers events. It’ll be good to perform some of our songs in front of an audience…see just how well I’ve got them down. I’m not bringing two of the pieces at all since I’m supposed to have them memorized. Good test!
Later we are singing Christmas carols at The Little House for the lighting of the tree. It’s gonna be a busy day.
Time to get ready.
I’m back. Had a great time this afternoon. I enjoyed the whole program at the church and had forgotten about the “high tea” to follow. Since I’d hitched a ride, I had to attend the tea and I’m glad. The food was good and the tea just kept coming. I met some interesting people at my table. We were having a good time when the announcement came: Pine Cone Singers need to leave to get back to Groveland for their next event.
As we went outside to the car, we were pleased the rain had finally stopped. Look, up in the sky! It’s a rainbow – actually a double rainbow. I’ve never seen a ‘bow with such intense colors as this one. With the sun hitting the church steeple and the ‘bows in the sky, it would’ve made a great picture. No camera :(
The event at The Little House was fun too. Saw a lot of the same people who were at the party last night as well as others I know. No pressure with the singing at this event – just Christmas carols that everyone sang together. Also met some new folks and may have found another activity where I can volunteer. Can’t seem to keep that hand from flying up when an opportunity to help comes along…
