Healthy December!

Happy December! Today is day 276 of my on track streak!

Its a new month....and also the last month of the year! So what are you going to do with it? I've read that the typical weight gain for the holiday season is around 5 pounds. I don't know if thats true or not, but I do know that the holiday season brings extra temptations and extra struggles.

In the past, I would treat December as a free pass to eat, eat, eat! After all, there are so many goodies around now that are not around at any other time of the year. So I always felt that I just had to have them all, and in huge amounts!

But this year is going to be different. I am NOT going to graze and graze all month long. Yes, there are special treats around, but that doesn't mean I have to have them all. I don't need to gorge myself. I'm not going to throw away any of the progress I've made since March. I've worked too darn hard for it!

I'm not saying I won't have a treat here and there. But I will stay strong. I will limit the amount of treats I have, and I will continue to exercise every day. I will track my food, and I will try to eat as healthy as I possibly can. I am going to enjoy this holiday season, but I am also going to remember that its not just about the food.

What is your plan for December? Whatever you do, don't throw in the towel and turn this month into an all you can eat buffet. Do your best to stay on track. Even if all you can do is maintain your weight this month, then do it! On January first, you will be so proud of yourself for staying strong!

That plan has been working for me so far. I haven't forbidden any food. I either plan it in my day, or if I have to have it, I enjoy a small serving without guilt, and get right back on track after. Like you said, just because it's there, doesn't mean I have to have it all the time. I'm also not willing to trade a 26 lb weight loss that I worked long and hard for, for 30 day free pass to eat all the holiday treats and gain it all back.

Good plan, Pixie, you can do it!

My plan is to just keep on keeping on, and maybe exercise a little extra during the holidays, because I'm going away so I'll have less control over what I put in my mouth.

Good luck!

I have approached this final weight-loss journey so differently from the myriad of other times I tried to lose weight. SP has made it possible for me to enjoy my food, but not overindulge. I eat healthy, but I do allow myself treats so I never feel deprived. Healthy outlook for both of us, I'd say!!!!

True insight on how to view the month of December. I do think we all secretly think it is a free pass to eat all the goodies that are around this time of year, at least I have in the past. Proof of that is all the weight watcher ads we see in January lol. But thinking about what it took all year to get where I am today, you're right, it's not worth it! I have allowed myself a few things lately that I don't usually. Need to remember my rule of eating only when hungry and daily exercise. Staying strong together, Girl emoticon

I love your postings, PIXIE! I think they can be so helpful to so many for encouragement. Why would we want to throw all our hard work by the wayside and as you said to get carried away with old bad eating habits? I'm feeling good about myself now, but for so long I felt it just wasn't going to be something I could do...getting healthy again and feeling good about my body. But, it has happened. I'm motivated and I continue to do the things which motivate me. I know you're doing that too. Also like you, I like the spring in my step as I'm approaching 67 years into my life. It feels good to FEEL GOOD!
Thank you Pixie for sharing your heart & soul with us!

My plan for December is to treat it like any other month, food wise! I know there will be tempting goodies galore but I gave up desserts two months ago and am not interested in them now. What a nice way to feel over the holidays!
I usually would gorge myself on goodies too Pixie but not this year! I want to bring in 2013 on the right foot . . . happy and healthy!

My plan at the very least is to stay the same over the holiday! I really don't have that many parties or events going on- so I am going to keep on track.
but until then I am going to keep on working at it.

Thank you so much for the encouragement. I really need to hear that for this holiday season.
I am not planed to indulge myself but holiday season are always toughest season for stay healthy and fit. But also I now know, if damage is small it is much easier for your new start in Jan 2013. I like you posting for " Give yourself a better you for this Christmas." How cool is that!! I never thought like that way but I like the idea. Thanks again and take care for now.
