November recap

Friday, November 30, 2012

I love reading other people's recaps so I thought I would start posting one monthly just for myself.

November 30, 2012 weight, 218 pounds
I lost another six pounds this month, bringing my total lost to 22 pounds since the first of September. Not going to set any records with that, but that is not my intent, is it? One good drinking, bingey weekend can put six pounds, and more, right back on.

My walking is faster and further and my gait feels more normal to me. I have bought four new pairs of walking shoes/sneakers in my quest to find the best for me. One pair is dedicated to just beach walking as the sand never really works the whole way out. Stairs are so much easier than even a month ago. My morning back pain is gone and the only knee stiffness is if I sit too long in the car. I almost always hit my pedometer goal of 6000 steps and often go over 10,000. My pushup routine also slipped a bit, but my strength training increase a bit, too.

My two biggest gains this month were: really learning to listen to my body and being able to feel the differences between true hunger, thirst and tiredness. Most of the time I can stop what I am doing and address my needs, not just my wants.

Secondly, I think I made pretty good strides in entertaining company and still staying on program. No body needs chips and dip... Hummus and carrots are just as well received. Potato and pasta salads have been replaced with just a big old green salad with lemon and grape seed oil, dessert really can be grapes and cheese and nuts.

While I love adult beverages, I know that I feel better when they are limited to once or twice a week and one beverage feels better than two.

The thing that has slipped this month is the water drinking. I know there is some debate about how much you really need, and I think I feel best with about six glasses a day. I can push to eight, but that just makes me feel waterlogged and bloaty. So my goal for this month is to really pay attention to how much water I am getting and where my real and true water threshold is.

Nice to reflect on the month that way. You really have made great progress and that should give you what you need to keep moving forward.
I love that you served healthier food while entertaining. I am going to do my best to do that this year too. My family are all trying to eat healthier. They will still enjoy treats but hopefully fewer of them.
I need to watch when I have a drink because I let my guard down.
Looking forward to a great month of December.
