The Long Walk

Friday, November 30, 2012

I have been taking the bus to Bible study on Thursdays because it has a built-in 10 minute walk on either end, resulting in 40 minutes of easy exercise round trip. Well, my monthly bus pass has expired and I need to go to a transit center to renew it. So, I thought, why not walk it? It's about 2.5 miles each way but that's not impossible.

So I set out an hour before the usual start time. That would give me plenty of time. It was nice walking out of my little neighborhood and into a different area. I felt like stopping to rest after about 30 minutes, but I pushed on for lack of time. It was overcast but not cold and I really worked up a sweat. But I got there on time and I proved to myself that I could do it.

Coming home I took the bus. This approach expands my horizons considerably. I can walk out the whole distance, see new sights, and come home on the bus if I'm tired. One day I'll be able to walk both directions.

That is about the walk I take when I do my long walk days. But I've never gone by myself and I congratulate your initiative. That's brilliant that you had to keep up your pace to get to study on time. I'm afraid I have a tendency to dawdle!
