Foot Pain

I've been dealing with foot pain since March of this year. It's been pretty mild unless I did a lot of high impact cardio, until recently. It had gotten so bad I couldn't walk without a crazy amount of pain. I finally went to the doctor and got an x-ray. Turns out I have a fairly large bone spur and they want to operate. I can't do that and be laid up for a minimum of six weeks if I am going to take care of my kids, and I can't just stop working. My hubby's hours were cut at work in August and we need my income to make ends meet (just barely). He hasn't had luck finding another job, either. So...what exercises can I do to ease the pain?

I guess I need to just get much more strict on my diet if I'm going to lose any weight without the amount of exercise that I'm used to doing to lose weight. Once I drop some of these pounds that should ease the pain...I hope.

    Some stuff that might help based on my own experience with heel spurs and plantar fasciitis:

    I attached a video link at end of post for exercises.

    Try a small plastic bottle with ice and roll your foot over it. It serves two purposes, icing it and massaging it. Theraband also makes foot rollers if you like that but don't want to use a plastic bottle. They have ridges to add to the massage affect. I just bought one the other day. I prefer it to the water bottle business, but I would start with the bottle because it's cheaper and you can find out if it helps.

    A night splint might help. Insurance might pay if a doc writes a script.

    I used to stretch my foot for 30 seconds against the window sill when I woke up because it used to hurt first thing in the morning.

    One thing to do is to make sure that you have good shoes. Arch support is what you'll need to look for, but the best thing is to consult with someone who knows orthopedic shoes because they know what you'll need, orthopedic or not.

    You can go to youtube and do a search for Chair Aerobics and find lots of work out clips there that you can do off your feet that are true workouts. I hope you'll be able to get your foot surgery soon. I suffer foot pain, too and it does make it heard to do exercises on your feet. I hope your hubby finds another job soon, too.
