PUSH THAT TUSH - Beware the Holidays

Friday, November 30, 2012

For A Lot Of Us The Holidays Feel Like
Falling Into The RABBIT HOLE From ALICE IN WONDERLAND.

Along With The Deluge Of TREATS Waiting Around Every Corner,
Saying EAT ME, DRINK ME
You Have The Frequent Food Feasts
(Which Usually Remind Me Of The MAD HATTER'S TEA PARTY),
The Stress Of Holiday Preparations ,
And The Constant Struggle To Find The TIME To Get Everything Done,
You Have The Ultimate Challenge...
Getting Together With People Who Push Your Buttons

Oh Boy … What Fun….{ !@#$ }

And Even Though You May Not Have Seen Them For Ages
They Usually Manage To Pick Up Right Where They Left Off…
Or So It Seems.

One Minute You’re All Laughing And Having A Good Time,
And Then {...Like The Movie JAWS ...Where They Cue The Music ...}
The SHARK Drops A REMARK,
And Then Another… And Another…
Until You Feel Like You’re Under Attack Again.
And Maybe You Are... Or Maybe Not.

Some Of Us Are So Conditioned
That ANY Weight Related Comment Feels Like A Criticism.

But REAL Or IMAGINED.... It’s All In Your Head
BECAUSE
You Aren’t On That BOAT Anymore
You’re In An Different Place Entirely.

You Are In CONTROL…
Getting Stronger, Getting Better, And Moving Forward.
You’re ROCKY BALBOA - Trying Hard Now, Getting Strong Now.
So When You’re Faced With That Opponent
Don’t Bother Trying To Hit Back

Instead...Climb Those Stairs…Victorious.

And like Rocky Balboa...I'm going to Push my Tush today
with my SparkPeople Total Body Sculpting DVD
Arms waving high in the air.

I read somewhere that when families get together, we revert to our old roles - the smart one, the pretty one, the athlete, the clown ... Snip, snip snip at each other. Mom always loved you best! Wah!

This was a great, motivational blog. Thank you. Unfortunately, most of the women in my family either have known, or do know, how it feels to be larger than we want to be. But I AM okay with my body. We have made peace. I will love myself no matter what, and if (when) the time comes when I'm skinny, I'll try hard not to make remarks like that to others. I've been there, I've fought. I"m saying goodbye to the 200s forever!

Yeah, the food pushers are out there en force this time of the year. We just have to expect them to give us their spiel, pushing the cookies, candy & junk - all in a very good hearted way of course. We know it's coming so we have to be prepared with polite niceties to tell them so as not to hurt their feelings when we don't grab their goods. Sometimes when they give me goodies they've made themselves, telling me I'll LOVE the little delights....I tell them I'm sure I will, but I just ate and am full so I'll take these wonderful treats home if you don't mind? At home they find their way to DH's dessert as a special treat. He tells me they were great and I can then share how good they were to the giver later. No matter how nice people are - and they ARE - no Christmas treat is worth shattering a goal or derailing us from our journey to health. Love your blog!! emoticon emoticon

Or we could stop being people pleasers all the time and just ditch tradition. I didn't go home for thanksgiving for once, and I avoided all the family drama, as well as all the genuinely craptastic, unhealthy food. My little family of 4 just stayed home and made our tasty, plant-based favorites and didn't even have any turkey - no tofurkey either, as I think fake meats are just gross. We had a super-healthy day with a race in the AM, and relaxed homemade cooking off & on all day, then dinner at a NORMAL time! A complete 180 from anything I've ever done, but so very satisfying to my soul. Why do we all live in a trap of our own making? Throw tradition out the window and do what's right for you.

I will have one less eating temptation this year. One of the holiday parties I will attend is at a place with horrible food. LOL.

I wish I had seen this earlier! You got the scenario down perfectly. And I fell for it and ate more than I wanted to. While it wasn't a disaster, it wasn't what I had planned on. Your right. I'm in control. I made the choice. Next time, I'll make a better choice because I am stronger! At least I didn't respond to Miss Mean. So that means I'm half way there!

Wonderful blog! We're NOT on that boat anymore. And the boat we ARE on has US @ the helm!

No matter what's said to us, it is OUR choice to let it sit inn our brain and be deemed worthy of further thought. OR we can choose to dismiss it and MOVE ON . . . PUSH THAT TUSH in any direction WE feel is appropriate for us.

HUGS Sheryl. Well done! You're back in the game!!
