NSV and Lincoln's inspiration!

Friday, November 30, 2012

The last day of the month and the turkey is almost gone. I'm looking forward to turkey sandwiches again because I'm not sick of them yet. There is something about having sandwiches that helps me stay within my calories allowed and lets me have a good day. A regular meal seems not to stick with me and gets me wanting more and more.

Yesterday was a very good day. We went to see the movie Lincoln with another couple. The movie was good, not great, but good. Lincoln had such a hard life, growing up and then even as president. The pressures were on him constantly and he had no support, not even from his wife. There is so much truth to the saying that 'some men are born to greatness and others have it thrust upon them'. His ability to overcome everything showed me just how great a man and a president, he was.

After the movie, our friends wanted to go for coffee. We ended up going to Donutman, my favorite donut shop. I had a NSV (non scale victory) there when I just ordered coffee. I watched as they ate but slowly sipped my coffee. That shop has my all time favorite chocolate glazed crullers and I can remember times when my husband and I would buy a dozen donuts, 6 for each of us and we would have them for supper instead of real food. Those days are gone forever but the memories remain. And yesterday, I sat there, remembering, smelling the delightful aromas, just sipping coffee and enjoying the lively conversation.
If that's not a victory then I don't know what is!! Perhaps it was Lincoln that
inspired me, lol!

Well done! You know that if you'd had the doughnut, it would have left you feeling far worse than you do having had the coffee.

Every step, no matter how small, in the right direction leads to your goals.

I try to take more time to enjoy the company or environment instead of food. it is not easy saying "no" to favorite foods.

I'd never survive in a donut shop. I can't make it through Walmart without filling a box! Lol. I'm proud of you!!

I bought one donut a couple. Weeks ago, had logged and tracked it before I even bought it. The sales girl talked me into the new red velvet donut with cream cheese drizzle. It was nasty. Two bites and I trashed it. So nice to fall OUT of love with a previous food.

    Nice NSV!

One thing I have noticed is that once I cut back on something not so healthy for me, when I had it again it was so much easier to walk away from it later.

Still working on that turkey. Missed those leftovers from Thanksgiving. Still have an appetite for turkey which Christmas will have to wait.

Lincoln sure had more problems than he needed to have. The country was splitting in two, and even bringing them together meant they were still unsettled. Lincoln was the start of the Republican party, Democrats were really anti minority. Boy, have things changed.
