I had my 2nd training session last night. It was incredible! I get the half hour sessions and they are perfect. My trainer, Steve, jam packs in exercises and we are constantly bouncing from one thing to the next. He is very attentive the whole time and gives good instructions on how to hold my body differently to get more out of the exercise (for example, "sit back on your heels more and keep your head up").
He also does things with pieces of equipment that I would've never thought of. For example, I would've never thought to stand on a bench press bench and to use it to step over and and forth keeping one leg planted on top of the bench or when you are doing pull downs with the pulley machine he has me stand and squat while doing it rather than sit. Everything he has me do seems like 2 or 3 exercises in one. I had such a rigid view of weights that I would've never thought you would be "allowed" to do some of these crazy things with the equipment, but why not!? It is nice seeing creative ways to work your body and I definitely feel like I've worked my body harder than I ever have before. It is also good trying new things and letting loose a little bit while I am doing weights. Before I would go with my piece of paper and a pen and would document absolutely everything so I could log it into my spreadsheet later, but I feel like by just going with the flow and doing different things when I was there I was getting more out of it. I was also feeling more confident walking around the weight area, which is pretty full of body builders and beautiful people lol.
I was incredibly sore after our session, but not in an old person and/or overweight/out of shape kind of sore. It was a good sore. When I was doing squats with the ball on the wall he had me do 10 full squats and then 10 little squats where you stay down. My legs were shaking uncontrollably! Then he had me lay down on one of the benches and pull my knees up to my chest. After that he had me pull my knees to my chest and then extend my legs out and back to my chest like if you were popping something in front of you with your toes. I was able to do 3-4 and then my muscles hit exhaustion. Literally my legs were locked in a chair position and I could not extend them out or pull them back far enough to touch my chest. I've never had the feeling where I couldn't physically complete a task or do what someone was asking me to do. It was a strange feeling, but I also kind of liked it. I really felt like I gave my complete all and there was nothing more of myself that I could give.
I am really not terribly sore today. Tomorrow will probably be a little worse, but I loved the whole thing. I only have one more session left, which I am using next Tuesday. I need to try to see if I can find enough money to do one session a week. That would be awesome!
