Sitting Too Much

Friday, November 30, 2012

I just read the article about women who even though they exercise put them selves at risk for sitting too much during the day. I thought about myself, as I do exercise, but I spend way too much time sitting at a computer. I am retired but my previous job involved sitting at a computer all day. But now I even sit and watch TV. My kids are out of the house and I have more time now than ever. Probably explains my very slow weight loss. It is definitely something to keep in mind .

I haven't worked full-time in a few years, and sitting is my number one enemy. Whether on the computer, watching TV or doing something productive like working in my art studio, I sit waaaay too much. I'm making an effort to limit my PC and TV time and trying to do more activities standing up. Walking has really helped, too along with stretching and toning exercises.

I read how sitting too much wreaks havoc on your back. Your spine distorts and lengthens and your hamstrings shorten. It kinda hunches you over. I've experienced this firsthand.

Let's keep moving for a healthy body.

I understand, how you feel. My job was a lot of sitting too all-day. Since retired, I spend way too much time on the computer I found. Lately, have told myself, as a new goal, to make sure I get all my chores, errands and workouts done at the gym. Plan my meals and then do some computer email catch-up, so this way it is helping me make progress. If I only spend 1-1/2 hour on computer and then turn it off. It does help me get more done. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Thanks for sharing. It reminded me of myself. Hope we can all be more active even when we get done with our exercise for the day. Do not just sit. A 10 minute walk to the mailbox or up the corner is even an idea once a day.

This is scary to me. I do believe that we need to sit less, making it happen is a challenge emoticon . My job involves way too much sitting, and lately I barely get up from my desk. Frustrating! I need to get a good strategy for this, for sure. Thanks for keeping my awareness up!

I think the more you sit, the slower your metabolism becomes. Just a thought.
