WEll, today was my dr. appt in the city. I went a little early and took a little unplanned detour and stopped in to see a friend I hadn't seen in a few years and she was home.... so nice. She was in her pj;s and said house was a mess (I didn't notice anything out of place) but like I told her, I was there to see her, not her house. We had a great visit. Some very thought provoking talk about when she split with her husband and that though she loved him and still loves him, she is not in love with him. and that may be the lites on that I needed too. I will really have to talk with this woman more.
Then went to my eye dr. appt. - waited an hour (that I could have been visiting my friend) before I saw him. He was very calming, and patient and it was quite pleasant as well. Then I called the faciliator from the program I took in Sept-Oct and she came to pick me up. WE went around to Value Village and a couple thrift stores looking for the 4th set of knitting needles I needed to make the sweater I started for my nephew's dd. I had the 2 round needles from stuff I brought back from the locker, and then I went to visit his wife yesterday to be sure the dd would like the sweater and she had one pair of the double pointed needles and today I was looking for the 4 th set. Anyway, no luck at the thrift stores but my friend said we could look in her "tool box" when we got to her place and sure enough, there they were... so long, round about way but I have all the needles and have much of the body of the sweater made, soon to start the sleeves. I haven't really knitted since almost 2 years ago when I was making baby stuff before Mya was born, so good sign for me that I want to do it, and I am very skilled, having knitted my way through 2 very regular sweater-wearing gd's and a few here and there for nieces etc. VEry good for stress relief. My bro's gf told me to be sure I show her it before I give it to them. I think it will take a few more days to finish it, but I will be showing it off, I will have to remember to take a pic and post it too.
Anyway, had a wonderful visit with my friend and we had cheese and crackers and wine and then went out for a hurried supper. Picked up bro at airport and he drove home, and it's supposed all a secret still. I called his gf to thank her for feeding the wood furnace so I could feel free to stay and have supper and visit with my friend, and she kept me on the phone a long time but didn't even mention that bro was there. I think she was trying to catch me up and prove that I had picked him up or something, he claimed he would say his friend picked him up, but I caught myself a couple times almost making a slip, so it's true, you have to have a really good memory to be a good liar.
Even the dr. told me to take care of me, so that meant 4 people said it to me today, now I have to say it to myself and mean it... I really do have to make the effort to take a day to myself at least weekly and this proved today how easy it could be, I just have to make arrangements with bro's gf or Mother's friends to feed the furnace once and that gives me an extended time away. My friend was saying when her dh was dying of cancer, she got to the point where they paid someone to come in Friday afternoon and stay till Sat. a.m. so she could go and stay with her dd for a nite of respite for herself. And I do know that the caregiver has to first take care of themself, so now I have to make it a priority and do it for myself.
Like my friend said, it cost her $14 an hour for that overnite away, so $3-450 but she needed it. I can't see anyone paying it here, but I did discover how easily I can do it. Also, it was good for me to drive to the city by myself today too. DO IT LILA!!!!
