Fun Food #2 - Doctor Kracker's Seeded Spelt Crispbreads
Thursday, November 29, 2012
Wow, so fun to say!! I like Wasa Crispbreads, so I thought I'd give these a try. They are organic and whole-grain. Each crispbread is 110 calories, 5 g fat, 10 g carb, and 4 g protein. They are also very low sodium, considering they are crackers (170 mg).
I tried a bite plain, and didn't care much for the texture. They are definitely crisp, but not in a light, crumbly way. It was more like breaking into a huge piece of peanut brittle (another fun, yet unhealthy, food). If you've ever had those Asian Wasabi Snack blends, with the glazed rice cracker thing, that's what this was like.
The flavor was also not fantastic. The ratio of sunflower seeds to cracker was just too high. I love sunflower seeds, but apparently not mixed with sesame seeds, flaxseeds, and spelt. I added a fun piece of low-fat American cheese to see if that would help. It actually made it worse.
Maybe with the right topping, these things will be better. I have a whole box of them, and they were freaking expensive, so I will eat them. Maybe low-fat cream cheese and apple slices?
Sorry, Doctor Kracker...as much fun as your product looks, it just didn't fit the fun food factors today.
