Whenever time and Weather make it possible, I like to walk to McDonald's for Breakfast on Sunday Mornings before Church. It is quieter than other days because not as many people are out and about that early. Traffic is lighter than usual so crossing 2 main roads is easier on Sundays.
Usually I walk a route that takes me about 35 - 40 minutes to get there, then 20 - 25 minutes to get home. The goal is to walk for an hour, Total. This past Sunday Morning Gary wanted to meet me at McDonalds, then I would ride home with him. I remapped my Route so that it would take 60 minutes to get to McDonalds.
I have been trying for over a year to walk 3 miles in 50 minutes so that I could walk the 5K at the City Park when they open the Annual Christmas Display. My best time has been 54 -55 minutes. They opened the Park on November 17 so I missed the Annual Chill Your Cheeks 5K.
Sunday Morning I was shocked when I checked my Pedometer at 50 Minutes into my walk and realized that I had walked 3.00 Mile!!!! Not a 5K, but Pretty Durn Close, I'd say!!!
I decided to try and recreate the feat before I told anyone about it. The Client who I stay with on Monday and Thursday Mornings is sound asleep while I am there. She does have an elderly Yellow Lab named Katie who I let out of her Kennel in the mornings. Katie lays in her "Special Spot" in the hallway and just observes the world going by.
The house is VERY Large, and by opening the Bedroom and Bathroom Doors at either end of the house I can create a "Track". I usually walk for at least 20 - 40 minutes every morning while my Client is sleeping. The "Track" circles through her Bedroom so I am checking on her frequently.
This morning I decided to try to walk my 3 miles in 50 minutes on the "Inside Track". On the 'StraightAway' - the center part of the house where there are no Door Frames or Furniture to bump in to, I Power Walked. Katie watched me, but the only part of her body that moved was her eyes -- they followed me each time I passed her, but she never moved or tried to follow me.
I didn't get a photo of her, but this dog looks almost exactly like her, minus some grey around her muzzle. I think she thinks I am some kind of Crazy Lady.
I 'Wrote' this Blog in my head as I walked. I wanted so much to say that Sunday Morning was NOT a Fluke, and that my short little Legs COULD cover 3 miles -- Or More!! -- in 50 minutes.
(Insert Drumroll, please!!)
Pedometer Reading = 50:00 Minutes AND 3.01 MILES
The Oklahoma City Spark Team is meeting Saturday Afternoon for an "Unofficial" 5K. If you are in the area, please join us. We would LOVE to meet you and Who Knows?! Maybe I'll hit another Personal Record!
