Where the wild things are at 5am.

Thursday, November 29, 2012

I have started preparing for the 5K Color Me Rad run Iíve signed up for. A few weeks ago, I was out at my usual 5am, when I saw a couple of Jackrabbits race across the street in front of me. Cute, interesting yes, but it also reminded me that while I live in a city there is a wildlife corridor not too far from my house, and Iíve seen coyotes wandering the city streets in the early mornings.

Being a country kid, having grown up on an actual farm and playing in wooded areas, I know the last thing I want to be doing when I come across a coyote or bobcat is run. Running makes me prey.

Iíve had that scenario in the back of my head in the mornings; what will I do if I happen to run into a wild Ėbeasty thatís bigger then a rabbit.

Tuesday morning, I was on my way back to my house at 5:30am, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a wild creature leap from the shrubs after me!!!!

I proceeded to leap into the air and screech......which caused the poor, tan tabby-cat, that had darted from the bush and was crossing the street behind me, to come very close to having a kitty coronary.

In all fairness, he scared me first!

We parted ways; him scurrying away from the insane woman and me feeling rather embarrassed and relieved that it was so early and no one saw my less then dignified reaction to a 10lbs house cat.

Have you thought about joining the Trail Running Team? We talk about our trail encounters and you sound like you have some great trail stories. Don't worry if you run on the road mostly, it's more about walking/hiking/running outdoors. We even mountain bike sometimes! Just a love of moving outdoors.

Ha ha, thanks for that laugh. In all seriousness though, what would you do? Maybe you should carry mace, or get a dog. Good luck!

haha -- Too funny. Your blog reminded me of an encounter I had with a javelina late at night after going to the office to finish up some things -- something I don't usually do. Hah. Thing nearly scared me to death!

Kudos to you with your 5k training! Keep up to good work!
