Late November update.

Thursday, November 29, 2012

Hello all! Just checking in for the end of November.

I got a little lax with tracking my food for a bit this month, due to a pretty hectic schedule, but I have been getting back on track slowly. Been eating out a lot and having to guesstimate, so I've just been jotting down where/what I ate in the 'notes' section of the food tracker.

The boyfriend and I have been gearing up slowly to prepare for winter hiking. I bought a new pack and some cold-weather gear, and I'm waiting on the Yule holidays to possibly bring me a little bit more. I'd love to get a nice new pair of snowshoes, but they are decently expensive for something I won't be using for more than a month or two in my neck of the woods.

I also bought a training manual recently (called 'The Centurion Method') which I am pretty stoked about starting. I figure I will wait until January to begin and see what 2013 will bring me. It was written by two trainers living in the UK and has aspects of guerrilla fitness/Crossfit and some old-style Barbarian/Roman training ideas. Lots of time spent outdoors, in all weather, doing pull-ups on low hanging branches, or lifting logs, or swinging a sledgehammer or an axe (or sword!). I'm pretty excited about it, honestly!

Last weekend, we did a trial-run winter hike. It was in the mid to low 30s, and we were out for about 3 hours on the mountain. It snowed about 30 minutes after we started and continued through the whole hike, so that was nice! It was very little snowflakes and added to the general ambiance of the whole hike. It was very quiet and cold, but exhilirating.

We also booked 2 nights/3 days in Salem for February over Valentine's Day! I am looking forward to being back there again. My future home!

Hope you all are well and managing this pre-holiday craziness with shopping mobs and the like. Be safe!

If you're interested in learning more about the Centurion Method, I can send you a link to the one trainer's website -- there is also a link to purchase his manual (it's about 13ish in USD) if you're intrigued!

I am NOT a gym person at all (I hate that rubbery smell!) and would much rather work out of doors, so this seems almost perfect. I love the concept of Crossfit, but again, that takes place in a gym. So outdoor Crossfit? Perfect!

We've got about a year to two years before we will finally be able to make the leap into moving up there, and I CAN'T WAIT. If anything it will be nice to be surrounded by a more liberal mindset than I already am in the part of NJ I live in.

That Centurion Method sounds intense, but fun. I'd love to be able to work up the endurance to try something like that one day. Not nearly there yet, though, however!

I visited Salem again recently myself, right before Halloween, so it was crazy busy. And although it was slightly different than I remembered it, I still loved it. I could totally see myself living there too. I'm so jealous of you. :P Seriously, though, it does sound like a great place to celebrate Valentine's day!

Hope you have a great holiday season!
