I need gages like old cars had.

Thursday, November 29, 2012

I wish I had gages on the dashboard of my body so I would know how far to push and not have to learn the hard way. I really over did it and my knee is telling me so. As I read about strength training it said something about pushing to point of failure...well I must have pushed past. Now if I had gages I would know when I was in the danger zone. Wouldn't that be cool.

About car gages:
A car has many different parts that operate using a variety of fluids and pressures. All are tracked using a series of gages that you see everyday on your dashboard. Each one of these gages relates to a specific function like oil pressure, engine temperature and gas. If you know how to read them properly, you will be able to get on top of repairs and problems before they become too severe.

I thought I was a sports car emoticon but I think I'm a family car. emoticon

Thanks everyone for your good ideas. I think my enthusiasm got ahead of my ability. Now as I am sitting down more I am looking at all my hard work (that really needed to be done long ago) and am very proud of myself. Now if I could only stretch my arm far enough I would pat myself on the back...note to self stretch arm. LOL

Linda the only way I see you as a wrecker is helping pull others along.

Ann your way with words always gives me funny pictures in my mind and makes me laugh! Flog the muscles to death is a great picture. I think my knees would agree with you and report me to the authorities for abuse. LOL

Angela a Ford Panel Wagon sounds like something a CA surfer dreams about. :)

Angel the 60's VW bug reminded me of the Car movie from Disney.

As we talked about us as cars the movie by Disney called Cars came to mind. Here is a picture of the cars. Can you find yourself?

Love the car analogy - gages would help! Me, I'm a 60's VW bug - not the fastest, but I still get around, even in rainy or icy weather, sometimes seen in pretty backwoods terrain. Our lives truly are a balancing act. Sometimes inevitably we push too far. I agree with ice that knee and rest it. Exercise something else for a few days, maybe lift weights. Then get back onto it, slowly working back up, building your strength gently. Elevating the leg usually helps me. Sometimes participating in a big day or big event is worth the pain afterwards. emoticon

To strengthen muscles you need to work them harder - you do not need to flog them to death!!
Strengthening is a gradual process - you should increase the intensity gradually.
Try lineament and/or ice on the knee -
Try exercises that use other muscles - and let that knee rest a bit - you might need to be on a small dose of anti-inflammatory daily long term - or try some of the "natural" herbal anti-inflammatory.
In some ways your FitBit is a gauge - you know your average steps - so you should be able to judge when you are over doing it from that!! IE: if your average is 3000 steps then 4500 is over doing it!!
Back off a bit - and yes I know - its coming Christmas - there is so much to do - especially this year!!

Nice analogy! I would be the wrecker that is just barely out of the junkyard ;)
So take it easy, ice that knee and look after yourself and hopefully, the pain will ease!
