In so many families, food equals love. My in-laws are no exception. My husband's mother and grandmother love to feed us to show us how much they love us. Thankfully, it's finally come to a head now and they know I'm trying to lose weight and how much weight I've already lost. Nam has started offering more salad and cooking smaller volumes when we come over and BB is more willing to accept "I love this, but really shouldn't have more" as real words, not a mask over "I hate your food."

We've come a long way and it's still hard to stay in my guidelines on Sundays (when I eat both places, once for dinner and once for lunch) but we're all working together to keep me on track. They love me enough to be proud of the progress I've made.

And your mother is learning to convey her love for you by sending candles instead of dark chocolate for your Christmas treat. Now, tell me THAT's not hard for her!
