For the last couple of years I have been in maintenance mode. I am at my goal weight & have gotten good at living a healthy life style. I am doing good but wanted something more. It's hard to stay motivated all the time. So I came up with a challenge for myself. I will be turning 50 in May and decided that I want to be in the best shape possible by my birthday.
Then I expanded that to creating different fitness things that I wanted to accomplish in 2013 to celebrate turning 50. My motto is that 50 is the new 30 and I am out to prove it!
This challenge is not at all about losing weight. It's all about building muscle, getting stronger and increasing my cardiovascular endurance.
I have signed up for a
in April and if that goes well I am planning on a full marathon in August.
I have several different strength goals throughout the year. I want to be able to do 50 consecutive push-ups (real ones), 5 un-assisted pull-ups & bicep curl 20 lb dumbbells (for 3 sets of 10 reps) I will keep adding to this list as I reach these goals.
In order to reach my goals I have hired a couple of personal trainers. I am going to work with one from Dec to March and one from April to July. I look forward to learning lots of good stuff from each of them. They each have their own individual style so I think I will be able to learn different things from each of them.
One other reason I decided to hire professionals is the fact that I want to lift heavier weights and need to know how to do it properly. I was never comfortable with getting a weight bar for my home gym because I did not know how to use it properly and did not want to injure myself. Working with the trainers will enable me to get a weight bar and lift heavier than I currently am with dumbells.
I will need all of my Sparkfriends to encourage me along the way! I wanted to put this out there so I can't decide to back out now. If I tell all of you that I am going to do this, then I better follow through! I will post updates and progress pictures along the way. Thanks for all your support!
