Endorphins fixed my annoyed mood

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

I was becoming irritated, so I needed to take a long walk. Yes, Ms. Patient Lady was annoyed. The co-worker promised to complete her portion of the project I must finish. She promised it by 9 a.m. It wasn't done, she promised by noon. It wasn't done. "Julz, I was interrupted. I promise it will be done by 12:30."

Guess What?

Yep, that is when I decided that I really needed a walk. Well, I need some cash tonight as my massage therapist will be visiting. :D Now, I drove to work today, I'm wearing dress flats (1" heel). No tennies at work. Yet, I *must* burn off some energy so I can calm down. Therefore, I took off walking to the bank, just under half mile away. Feeling annoyed all the way there and pressed the wrong button on the ATM. OH NO! Got the money out of checking, although checking was low.

"Breathe. Julz. Breathe. Easily Resolved."

I put the ATM card back in and transferred the funds from savings to checking. Whew. All is well.

Back across the street and stop in at Trader Joe's to pick up lunch because I slept too late this morning and did not make my lunch. They have my favorite tofu spring rolls, which are only about 40 calories higher than I usually allot myself for lunch. That's okay. I shaved a few at breakfast, I can shave 20 at dinner.

Then, I saw them. I cannot resist caramels that have dark chocolate coating. And TJ's had the special holiday Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels. Yes. I bought them. I will not allow myself more than one per day. They are 73 calories each.

Ate the lunch, +40 (-20 from breakfast). Ate the caramel +73. Now I will have to shave almost 100 from dinner. I can still do this.

I am feeling much better, so I walk down the hall. It's 1:15 and her door is still closed, which means she is still doing her part on MY Project. My Project that I have to finish today. I walk back to my desk and check my instant messenger. Yep, there is the message from her. "Was interrupted. Still working on it. Will have it done after your lunch."

Well, my lunch is done. Where is my project?

Fortunately, the walk generated those miraculous endorphins for me and I'm not feeling all that irritated with her anymore. I can wait, if the project isn't finished today, it will be finished early tomorrow morning and boss won't mind the slight delay.

Mission accomplished. Exercise fixed my annoyed mood.

I am a runner, and exercise is great for that, I am also a tai Chi player, it is also great for changing focus, I am a Qigong practitioner and this is also great for stilling the mind.

One of the differences between running and Qigong, and even Qigong and Tai Chi, is that some of the benefit of refocusing with Qigong can be easily accessed sitting at my desk or standing in the hospital, and it does not have to be obvious to those around you.

I was able to calm my mind in the face of dealing with the Hospital emergy process by doing a little Qigong at appropriate pauses in the process and there for able to bring some calm to my sister and her daughter.

Glad you got a walk in and were able to shift gears.

UGH! I hate depending on other people for projects. My protectionist self does not like to delegate and usually ends up doing all of it by myself. Not good!

I am glad that it all worked out and you got to eat some caramels!

Hmmmm... in my case it would've been that chocolate caramel that did the trick emoticon Sometimes we do need to just take a few deep breaths and asks if this is really worth the stress it's causing. Often, taking a walk is just what the doctor ordered!
