The Last Sunday of the Year

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

Well, last Sunday was the last Sunday of this year, according to the Christian Calendar. Now we enter the season of Advent.

I grew up knowing nothing at all about Advent, All Saints' Day, etc. I'd heard of an advent calendar (read: candy calendar), but had never heard of an Advent wreath, and didn't know there was such a thing as a Christian calendar.

It is personally important to me to reclaim our Christian holidays and the heritage we have lost. I am still working on All Saints' Day reclammation.

If you are a Christian, do you celebrate Advent?

As a child, my sisters & I (along with Mama's help) made our Advent wreath every year, but I have t admit, I never understood what it meant.
You've raised my curiosity, Carol. I'll need to investigate it.

Growing up in the Catholic religion, my father did the Advent thing. I never understood it.

Yes, I celebrate Advent as a way to get ready for thinking about Christ's birth.

My son attended a Methodist church for a while as they had a really great youth group and they celebrated the Advent. They do in the Catholic church too and in the Presbyterian church I went to as a teenager.
